Like Keb Mo, Davis doesnt stick to straight blues; theres a toe-tapping pop sensibility at work on Let Me Stay a While and others. He sings, I aint no bluesman/Im the bluesmans son, a nice analogy for his music--its linked to the past but living today. ---Robert Gordon Butt Naked Free is not only refreshing but one of Guy Davis best album ever. Featuring a steamy mixed bag of roots and blues. A must hear.
