From New York Times bestselling author-illustrator of the Llama Llama books comes a new character ready to dig his way into your heart! Here come the BIG RIGS rolling down the street. Thumpa-thumpabumpa-bumpaBEEP! BEEP! BEEP!Theres Loader and Dump Truck, Backhoe and Crane. Theyre ready to transform a vacant lot into a neighborhood park. And who wants to help most of all?Little Excavator! But are there any jobs for someone so small?Anna Dewdneys signature rhyming text and inviting illustrations make this a perfect read aloud for for fans of things that go! From School Library Journal PreS-K-Little E, a baby excavator, busily tries to help the big rigs as they work to build a park, but he is either too small for the task or in the way. Its only when the construction is nearly done that theres a job that none of the mighty machines can get to, and its Little Es turn to shine. The cheerful, anthropomorphized machines are illustrated in Dewdneys signature, child-friendly style, and there is onomatopoeia galore as each truck is introduced and gets to work. Fans of Dewdneys Llama Llama books will find the rhythm of the text and the positive tone familiar. VERDICT A fun first purchase for all preschool collections.-Kelly Roth, Bartow County Public Library, Cartersville, GA Review Raves for Little Excavator:* Pitch perfect...[Dewdney] has constructed a solid winner for one of her final books, with an appealing main character, vibrant illustrations with varying perspectives, and an action-packed, rhyming text with sound effects just begging to be read aloud with dramatic effect. An A for Little E and his creator.--Kirkus, starred review About the Author Anna Dewdney was a teacher, mother, and enthusiastic proponent of reading aloud to children. She continually honed her skills as an artist and writer and published her first Llama Llama book in 2005. Her passion for creating extended to home and garden and she lovingly restored an 18th century farmhouse in southern Vermont. She wrote, painted, gardened, and lived there with her partner, Reed, her two daughters, two wirehaired pointing griffons, and one bulldog. Anna passed away in 2016, but her spirit will live on in her books.
