-Titulo Original : Mysteries Of Thorn Manor
-Fabricante :
Margaret K. McElderry Books
-Descripcion Original:
In this delightful sequel novella to the New York Times bestselling Sorcery of Thorns, Elisabeth, Nathaniel, and Silas must unravel the magical trap keeping them inside Thorn Manor in time for their Midwinter Ball! Elisabeth Scrivener is finally settling into her new life with sorcerer Nathaniel Thorn. Now that their demon companion Silas has returned, so has scrutiny from nosy reporters hungry for gossip about the city’s most powerful sorcerer and the librarian who stole his heart. But something strange is afoot at Thorn Manor: the estate’s wards, which are meant to keep their home safe, are acting up and forcibly trapping the Manor’ occupants inside. Surely it must be a coincidence that this happened just as Nathaniel and Elisabeth started getting closer to one another… With no access to the outside world, Elisabeth, Nathaniel, and Silas-along with their new maid Mercy-will have to work together to discover the source of the magic behind the malfunctioning wards before they’re due to host the city’s Midwinter Ball. Not an easy task when the house is filled with unexpected secrets, and all Elisabeth can think about is kissing Nathaniel in peace. But when it becomes clear that the house, influenced by the magic of Nathaniel’s ancestors, requires a price for its obedience, Elisabeth and Nathaniel will have to lean on their connection like never before to set things right. From School Library Journal Gr 7 Up-A sweetly romantic cozy mystery featuring beloved characters. Picking up two months after the conclusion of A Sorcery of Thorns, this title finds Elisabeth comfortably ensconced in Thorn Manor, alongside her love interest, the wizard Nathaniel. Following the dramatic and traumatizing finale of the previous book, both are happy for a chance to de-stress and relax. However, Nathaniel is tasked with hosting a ball and, more concerningly, the magical house is not letting anyone in or out. Nathaniels demon Silas, mostly defanged (literally) following the conclusion of the previous book, offers information about the houses history which may help solve the mystery of being trapped inside. However, Elisabeth suspects the timing of her and Nathaniels first real make-out with the change in the house may be more to blame. The low-stakes, easygoing vibe is immediately refreshing, offering a chance to see how these characters live outside of the life-and-death stakes of their previous adventure. The manor house has a personality of its own, and Elisabeths discovery of the secrets of past inhabitants helps fill out the backstory from the previous volume. Rogerson is clearly having fun imagining this cozy tale, imbuing the sweetly romantic scenes as well as the magic sequences with energy and zest. As in the first entry, the human characters are all assumed white. Those without familiarity with the characters and setting may find some elements confusing. VERDICT A charming, cozy treat for fans of A Sorcery of Thorns and perfect to curl up and read on a winters night.-Ann Foster About the Author Margaret Rogerson is the author of the New York Times bestsellers An Enchantment of Ravens, Sorcery of Thorns, and Vespertine.
