Habia sufrido otros en el pasado y sabia lo que sucedia cuando me sentia como si mis pulmones dejaran de funcionar de repente. Pero el que padeci en diciembre de 2009 fue peor. Empece a jadear y atragantarme mientras pugnaba por inhalar un poco de aire, pero fui incapaz de hacerlo durante al menos un minuto. Y cuanto mas se prolongaba la imposibilidad de respirar, mas se acrecentaba el panico, lo que provocaba a su vez que respirar me resultara mas y mas complicado. Posteriormente, los ataques comenzaron a repetirse con mayor regularidad y en un par de ocasiones fueron tan graves que tuvieron que llevarme de urgencias al hospital para administrarme oxigeno. Fui a ver a mi medico, quien me derivo a un especialista en medicina interna de otro pueblo, situado tambien en las polvorientas llanuras del suroeste de Oklahoma. Por entonces contaba treinta y tres años y disfrutaba de buen estado de salud, aunque en los ultimos tiempos me habia sentido un poco estresada. Dicho especialista me hizo una radiografia de torax y me dio un inhalador, pero los ataques continuaron. El siguiente paso fue practicarme una endoscopia (es decir, meterme por la garganta un tubo en cuyo extremo hay una pequeña camara para examinar mi esofago y mi estomago). Despues de eso me hicieron una ERCP (siglas en ingles de Colangiopancreatografia Retrograda Endoscopica), una prueba mas seria con la que te examinan los conductos biliares y el pancreas. Asi fue como encontro una especie de obstruccion en uno de los conductos que comunica el pancreas y el higado, por lo que decid
