CD Americas Greatest Hits 1943 / Various - VARIOUS ARTISTS
-Titulo Original : Audio CD - AMERICAS GREATEST HITS 1943 / VARIOUS - VARIOUS ARTISTS-Fabricante : Acrobat-Descripcion Original: We continue our popular and successful series devoted to the biggest chart records of each calendar year in the early chart era as we focus on 1943, the third full calendar year of the Billboard Best Sellers chart - the chart was launched in July 1940. This great value 98-track 4-CD set comprises almost every record which appeared in the Top 20 during the year - specifically it features the records which appeared in the Top 10 published in Billboard, plus those which are listed as having reached No. 11-20 in Joel Whitburns well-known chart publications, which were based on analysis of regional charts. For reasons of space, it excludes those records which entered the Top 10 in 1942, and so are included in our existing 1942 collection, and also excludes a few titles for which mastering sources could not be found. One feature of this year was that the American Federation of Musicians recording ban had come into force, and so there were a number of big hits which were performed a cappella, including some by Frank Sinatra and Dick Haymes. In addition, the big names of the swing era were still very much in evidence, and among the big long-lasting No. 1s of the year were Ive Heard That Song Before by Harry James & Helen Forrest, Sunday Monday Or Always by Bing Crosby and Paper Doll by the Mills Brothers. In between, a host of other big names made their presence felt - Jimmy and Tommy Dorsey, Benny Goodman, Judy Garland, Duke Ellington, Dinah Shore and others - alongside many highly collectable lesser-known records by some artists we dont hear too much about these days. It makes for an intriguing and very entertaining musical snapshot of a year when the USA was fully embroiled in WWII and there were plenty of patriotic and sentimental wartime hits to give a period flavour, with prolific hitmaker Glenn Miller epitomising that particular strand. It includes a 12,000 word booklet with a commentary on every record as well as full discographical and chart information... -

CD Help Me Make It Through The Night - SMITH, SAMMI
-Titulo Original : Audio CD - HELP ME MAKE IT THROUGH THE NIGHT - SMITH,SAMMI-Fabricante : Acrobat-Descripcion Original: Sammi Smith, who died in February of this year, had an exemplary reputation in the Country music world despite having been in semi-retirement for many years. After some regional success she became a resident of Nashville in the early 70s where she gained a reputation as a singer who was not going to compromise her integrity for the Nashville method of attaining stardom. This attitude brought into the circle of performers then known as Outlaws where she befriended those artists at the forefront of the movement like, Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings. She was signed to the tiny Nashville based label, Mega that had been formed as a Tax write off and the last thing they wanted was a hit. Ironically Kristofferson gave her his latest song Help Me Make It through The Night which became not only a Country Number One but also a pop top ten hit too. The song was not though an international hit for her that honour went of course to Gladys Knight and the Pips, who recorded it as an album track as did countless other artists in the wake of Sammis hit version. This CD contains the original Help Me Make It Through The Night LP plus a selection of her other Mega label singles and album tracks. The illustrated booklet includes Sammis full story and details of her chart achievements. We are expecting the support of the Country Music community which is getting rather strong over here in good old blighty so watch out for plays on Radio Two and the country specialists... -

CD Kay Kyser Hits Collection 1935-48 - Kyser, Kay
-Titulo Original : Audio CD - KAY KYSER HITS COLLECTION 1935-48 - Kyser, Kay-Fabricante : Acrobat-Descripcion Original: Kay Kyser was a bandleader and radio personality who was hugely popular and maintained a high profile from the mid-30s through to the early 50s, his radio show incorporating a music quiz under the title of Kay Kysers Kollege of Musical Knowledge which he introduced as The Ol Perfessor, giving rise to his image where he appears wearing a mortar-board and academic gown. This great-value 73-track 3-CD set consists entirely of hit records, comprising recordings which are listed as having appeared in one version or another of the popularity charts during the 1930s before the introduction of the Billboard record sales chart in 1940, and after that in the Top 20 of the Billboard chart. It naturally features his No. 1 hits The Umbrella Man, Three Little Fishes, Jingle Jangle Jingle, Ole Buttermilk Sky and Woody Woodpecker, plus many other memorable and evocative Top 5 classics which capture the zeitgeist of the fifteen years or so which spanned WWII and its aftermat... -
