INTRODUCTION I come from a family of nine-and a big family means big meals. In an effort to control some of our mealtime chaos and get dinner on the table before ten p.m., when I was thirteen years old, I began to help my dad with the cooking. Within a few months, I was cooking dinner for the entire family every single night-I loved it immediately. I have always been a creative person, so I started expressing my artistic side through cooking. I had fun dreaming up my own recipes, experimenting with new types of cuisines and ingredients, and putting my own twist on classics. At nineteen, I decided to capture the process in photographs and began to document my favorite recipes on Half Baked Harvest. I had no idea what I was doing at the time, but fast-forward several years and Half Baked Harvest has become a full-time career that keeps me extremely busy. In fact, my mom, my dad, and one of my brothers work for the company! When I first started out, I was young, still living in my parents’ house, and I had all the time in ...

Chapter 1ABC: Always Be Cooking Here’s how to celebrate and embrace the act of cooking and eating in your everyday life, no matter what Cook in this moment, whichever moment you’re in This book is organized by situation and occasion, rather than by ingredient or recipe type. I’ve divided a typical week into two buckets: Monday through Thursday, and Friday and the Weekend. My life looks a lot different on a Tuesday evening-after finishing work and catching up with a family that’s been scattered all over the place-than it does on a Saturday afternoon, when I might have enough free time to let one of my cats take a nap on my chest. But no matter what day of the week it is, a girl’s gotta eat! Within the weekday and weekend sections of this book, the individual chapters are devoted to the sorts of everyday scenarios you and I might find ourselves in-an effort to capture the types of meals that will fit into your actual life. In the weekday chapters, you’ll find stovetop suppers and dinner salads, and a chapter on the healthyish recipes that I crave after a weekend of eating and drinking and sleeping in. With many of us juggling work, school, housekeeping, caretaking, and commuting, these weekday dishes make the most of short active times. Half an hour of effort can add up to a complete meal if you know how to prioritize your prep and cook times. By comparison, the weekend section is mostly devoted to recipes with longer cook times and some with larger serving sizes: soups, stews, braises, roasts, and things to grill. That said, even when you do have the downtime to afford to park something on the back of the stove or in a low oven for a couple-few hours, I don’t want you to spend more than about half an hour of active cooking time to get that meal going or finish it up. (Grilling is a bit of an exception, since it’s one of the few times that cooking overlaps with hanging out. But there are many grilling recipes here that can be made before your friends arrive, if that’s how you like to party.) I love having people over, but my overambitious-entertainer phase-when I could be found piping out gougeres at 2 a.m. the night before a holiday party-is done. My kind of weekend food isn’t annoying, complicated, or technically challenging...

Ina Gartens Roasted Turkey Roulade and Baked Sweet Potato Fries I dont know anyone who looks forward to carving a turkey on Thanksgiving. Youre at the table, everyones watching, and youre struggling to carve a hot bird. Instead, I decided to make a roasted turkey breast stuffed with all kinds of delicious things--sausage, cranberries, and figs. No bones and it cooks to juicy perfection in under two hours. How easy is that? Sweet potatoes are available year-round, but their prime season is really autumn and winter. Choose potatoes that are smooth and unblemished, and use them fairly soon because they dont keep as well as other potatoes. These potatoes are crispy like fries but theyre better for you because theyre baked. --Ina Garten (Photo credit Quentin Bacon) Roasted Turkey Roulade (Serves 6 or 7) 3/4 cup large-diced dried figs, stems removed 3/4 cup dried cranberries 1/2 cup Calvados or brandy 4 tablespoons (1/2 stick) unsalted butter 1-1/2 cups diced onions (2 onions) 1 cup (1/2-inch-diced) celery (...

-Titulo Original : Fix It With Food Every Meal Easy Simple And Delicious Recipes For Anyone With Autoimmune Issues And Inflammation A Cookbook-Fabricante : Clarkson Potter-Descripcion Original: NATIONAL BESTELLER * 120 simple, delicious recipes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner to help you manage autoimmune issues all day-plus a n all-new 10-day, 30-recipe reset to identify your food triggers-from the New York Times bestselling author of Fix It with Food.During the first few months of 2020, Michael Symon religiously posted Symon Dinners on every day to help his fans keep pantry-inspired meals fun and varied. The response was so great and his followership so engaged that creating a cookbook of simple weekday breakfasts, lunches, and dinners became a priority for him. In Fix It withFood: Every Meal Easy, Michael combines simple dishes for busy weekdays and meals that address autoimmune triggers for a collection of 120 health-supportive recipes. The chapters are divided by what trigger youre avoiding, including No Meat, No Dairy, and No Flour. If youre not sure what your food triggers are, the ten-day reset will help you figure out which foods to avoid. After the reset, Michael offers guidance about how to reintegrate foods into your routine. Through fan feedback, Michael discovered that most people using his first book didnt need four servings-most wanted just enough for two meals, so in Every Meal Easy, all of the main recipes yield two meals or enough for one meal plus leftovers. And since sometimes you have a crowd to cook for, Michael offers helpful information regarding how to double recipes when needed. Readers will also find a list of his favorite 30 anti-inflammatory friendly ingredients to keep in stock all the time and a master ingredient substitution list, so if you dont have kale or black beans on hand, you can swap in whatever you have in your fridge or pantry. With Michaels encouraging voice and flexible recipes, Fix It with Food: Every Meal Easy is a must-have for anyone who is looking to feel better without compromising eating well. IntroductionAs many of you might be aware, I suffer from two autoimmune diseases: discoid lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. I learned about these issues when I was in my twenties, but like most young people, I chose to ignore the symptoms and continued to live my life as if nothing had changed. For the most part, I was able to do so, working through the inevitable inflammation, discomfort, and pain that resulted from my poor decisions. But as I got older, the pain increased; either that or my tolerance for it declined. Regardless, something had to change. That’s when I took a very close look at my diet to see if I couldn’t manage or reduce much of that discomfort simply by avoiding certain foods. On The Chew, I designed a 20-day food plan-what I now call the Reset-to try and zero in on which types of foods caused me inflammation (the source of my pain). The process I devised for myself consisted of a very strict diet that eliminated the most likely sources of discomfort, namely flour, dairy, meat, and sugar. By identifying and avoiding all of these so-called triggers, I found that I was largely able to stop reaching into the medicine cabinet. After sharing on TV what I learned throughout the process, I received a groundswell of positive feedback from viewers. As I was posting these recipes on social media, people were responding enthusiastically about how the Reset was helping them deal with their own triggers. That response is what encouraged me to write Fix It with Food, my first cookbook geared to antiinflammatory foods and recipes. In that book we created a ...

Book : Outlander Knitting The Official Book Of 20 Knits...

-Titulo Original : Outlander Knitting The Official Book Of 20 Knits Inspired By The Hit Series-Fabricante : Clarkson Potter-Descripcion Original: Feel the magic of Outlander at your fingertips with this officially licensed book of knitting: twenty patterns inspired by the hit series from STARZ and Sony Pictures Television, based on Diana Gabaldons bestselling novels. From the Scottish Highlands to the courts of Versailles to the eastern shores of North America, the TV show Outlander brings to life in gorgeous detail the epic love story of Jamie Fraser and Claire Beauchamp Randall Fraser. But beyond the drama and passion, what has captured fans’ imagination the most are the rustic knits worn on the show. Now knitters of all skill levels can recreate them with twenty projects for apparel, accessories, and home decor that take inspiration from memorable episodes. Knit the capelet cowl that Mrs. Fitz gives to Claire at Castle Leoch, warm your feet with Clan Mackenzie Boot Socks, swaddle your bairn with the Mo Chridhe Baby Blanket, and dress your Jamie in a warm waistcoat. From chunky knits to Celtic cables, each project includes a clearly written pattern, gorgeous photography, and scenes from the set. A love letter to the fans, Outlander Knitting will have you wishing you could time travel to the Highlands. About the Author Kate Atherley is a seasoned knit designer, a knitting teacher, and the managing technical editor of Knitty. She’s the author of The Knitters Dictionary, Knit Mitts, Custom Socks, and Pattern Writing for Knit Designers, and her work has appeared in countless knitting books and magazines. Kate lives in Toronto with her husband. Excerpt. © Reprinted by permission. All rights reserved. Introduction There are so many gorgeous things to enjoy in the Outlander TV series-including beautiful scenery, beautiful people, and a truly remarkable amount of beautiful knitwear. The crafters who have been watching the series have responded with such enthusiasm for the knits (and a few sneaky crocheted pieces) that many have created their own interpretations of the pieces they’ve seen on-screen. Well, this book is our love letter to the fans. We’re right there with you, knitting in front of the TV, wishing we were in the Highlands instead. The projects in this book were created by expert knitting designers and are a mix of homages to the costumes worn in the show and items inspired by characters or scenes. After all, even if we don’t see one on-screen, we know that expert tea-leaf reader Mrs. Graham would need a cozy for her teapot. There’s also something here for every skill level and knitting interest. If you’re a beginner knitter-or you’re just looking for a relaxing knit to work on while catching up on missed episodes-you’ll easily be able to tackle the Sassenach Capelet Cowl or the simplified version of the Rent Shawl; and if you’re up for a wee bit of adventure, try Mrs. Fitz’s Armwarmers. If you’d like to dip your toe into stranded colorwork, the Lovat Mitts and Cowl are the perfect projects. A more experienced stranded colorwork knitter will relish the Targe Tam. If you enjoy lacework, both the River Run Shawl and the Lace Fichu are satisfying projects, engaging but not too challenging. There are two sock designs that we didn’t see on-screen, but we know very well indeed that you’d need warm socks while roaming the Highlands or tending your homestead in the New World. If you’re looking for an heirloom-quality project using traditional techniques, consider the stranded colorwork and steeked The Man I Left Behind Vest. Each pattern lists Skills Required so you’ll know what techniques are needed that go above and beyond the basics of casting on, binding off, increasing and decreasing; this list will give you a sense of the complexity of each pattern. The Glossary and Techniques section at the back of the book is there to help you out with terms and techniques you might not know. If there’s a special term for a particular pattern, we’ve listed that in the pattern instructions. All swatches should be bl...

Book : Ritz And Escoffier The Hotelier, The Chef, And The...

-Titulo Original : Ritz And Escoffier The Hotelier, The Chef, And The Rise Of The Leisure Class-Fabricante : Clarkson Potter-Descripcion Original: Now in paperback, the critically acclaimed Ritz and Escoffier. In a tale replete with scandal and opulence, Luke Barr, author of the New York Times bestselling Provence, 1970, transports readers to turn-of-the-century London and Paris to discover how celebrated hotelier Cesar Ritz and famed chef Auguste Escoffier joined forces at the Savoy Hotel to spawn a scandalously modern luxury hotel and restaurant, signaling a new social order and the rise of the middle class. In early August 1889, Cesar Ritz, a Swiss hotelier highly regarded for his exquisite taste, found himself at the Savoy Hotel in London. He had come at the request of Richard DOyly Carte, the financier of Gilbert & Sullivans comic operas, who had modernized theater and was now looking to create the worlds best hotel. DOyly Carte soon seduced Ritz to move to London with his team, along with Auguste Escoffier, the chef de cuisine known for his elevated, original dishes. The two created a hotel and restaurant like no one had ever experienced, in often mysterious and always extravagant ways, where British high society mingled with American Jews and women. Barr deftly re-creates the thrilling Belle Epoque era just before World War I, when British aristocracy was at its peak, women began dining out unaccompanied by men, and American nouveaux riche and gauche industrialists convened in London to show off their wealth. In their collaboration at the still celebrated Savoy Hotel, the pair welcomed loyal and sometimes salacious clients, such as Oscar Wilde and Sarah Bernhardt; Escoffier created the modern kitchen brigade and codified French cuisine in his seminal Le Guide culinaire, which remains in print today; and Ritz, whose name continues to grace the finest hotels, created the worlds first luxury hotel. The pair also ruffled more than a few feathers. Fine dining and luxury travel would never be the same--or more intriguing. Review Notable Press & Accolades: Best Cookbooks and Food Books of 2018 -Huffington PostBest of 2018: Non-Fiction -The Los Angeles Public LibraryRitz and Escoffier, Luke Barr’s entertaining narrative history, reads like a novel…Mr. Barr has done a fine job evoking fin-de-siecle London and the characters of the two odd men who played such a pivotal role in that exhilarating time.” -Wall Street Journal “In this winningly-told story, Luke Barr explores the advent of the luxe life through the saga of hotelier Cesar Ritz and chef Auguste Escoffier, whose partnership brought us not only the adjective ‘ritzy,’ itself no small testament, but also such once-novel phenomena as hotel rooms with their own bathrooms, and innovative dishes like peach Melba. It’s a charming tale of success, scandal, and redemption-complete with an unexpected villain. Warning: It will make you hungry, and a little nostalgic for bygone times.”-Erik Larson, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Dead Wake and Devil in the White City When you eat a Peach Melba, or drink a Grand Marnier, you have these men to thank; they coined the names, then popularised the concoctions. Ritz himself became not merely a byword for luxury but the actual word for it. -The Economist “Barr’s prose is lively and his sourcing impeccable...a thoroughly enjoyable look into a defining moment of culinary history.” -Publishers Weekly “Bar...vividly captures the moment when Ritz and Escoffier conceptualized and created a new type of luxury establishment in which the aristocracy, the nouveau riche, and the beau monde mingled freely and easily. Barr’s highly enjoyable and well-researched book carries the reader into the intimate heart of Ritz and Escoffier’s philosophy.” -Library Journal “The book is as much a celebration of luxury as it is the tale of two scrappy, high-achieving men, and Barr intertwines their biographies with the lush social environs they created […] It’s difficult not to drool on the pages at the thought of foie gras, truffles, Escoffier’s l...

The chowder is a style unique to southern New England shores: steel-gray, briny, full of clam flavor, plenty of clam meat, and a handful of potatoes; and the lobsters are steamed to perfection. But beyond these glories, Abbotts posted menu suggests a whole range of other fine seafood items: steamers, mussels, clams and/or oysters on the half-shell, hot lobster rolls that are nothing but buttered pink meat on a bun, lobster salad rolls (cool, bound with mayonnaise), crab rolls (hot or cold), and shrimp salad rolls. There is even broiled chicken for the lost soul who finds himself at this great seafood restaurant craving poultry.Abbotts is a very pretty place to dine al fresco. The daughter of parents with unfulfilled dreams themselves, Malaka navigated her childhood chasing her parents ideals, learning to code-switch between her familys Filipino and Egyptian customs, adapting to white culture to fit in, crushing on skater boys, and trying to understand the tension between holding onto cultural values and trying to be an all-American kid.Malaka Gharibs triumphant graphic memoir brings to life her teenage antics and illuminates earnest questions about identity and culture, while providing thoughtful insight into the lives of modern immigrants and the generation of millennial children they raised. Malakas story is a heartfelt tribute to the American immigrants who have invested their future in the promise of the American dream.Praise for I Was Their American Dream “In this time when immigration is such a hot topic, Malaka Gharib puts an engaging human face on the issue. . . . Book : Eat A Peach A Memoir - Chang, David

-Titulo Original : Eat A Peach A Memoir-Fabricante : Clarkson Potter-Descripcion Original: NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER * From the chef behind Momofuku and star of Netflix’s Ugly Delicious-an intimate account of the making of a chef, the story of the modern restaurant world that he helped shape, and how he discovered that success can be much harder to understand than failure.NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY NPR * Fortune * Parade * The New York Public Library * Garden & GunIn 2004, Momofuku Noodle Bar opened in a tiny, stark space in Manhattan’s East Village. Its young chef-owner, David Chang, worked the line, serving ramen and pork buns to a mix of fellow restaurant cooks and confused diners whose idea of ramen was instant noodles in Styrofoam cups. It would have been impossible to know it at the time-and certainly Chang would have bet against himself-but he, who had failed at almost every endeavor in his life, was about to become one of the most influential chefs of his generation, driven by the question, “What if the underground could become the mainstream?” Chang grew up the youngest son of a deeply religious Korean American family in Virginia. Graduating college aimless and depressed, he fled the States for Japan, hoping to find some sense of belonging. While teaching English in a backwater town, he experienced the highs of his first full-blown manic episode, and began to think that the cooking and sharing of food could give him both purpose and agency in his life. Full of grace, candor, grit, and humor, Eat a Peach chronicles Chang’s switchback path. He lays bare his mistakes and wonders about his extraordinary luck as he recounts the improbable series of events that led him to the top of his profession. He wrestles with his lifelong feelings of otherness and inadequacy, explores the mental illness that almost killed him, and finds hope in the shared value of deliciousness. Along the way, Chang gives us a penetrating look at restaurant life, in which he balances his deep love for the kitchen with unflinching honesty about the industry’s history of brutishness and its uncertain future. Review “With humor, pathos and heaping spoonsful of self-deprecation . . . Eat a Peach is an honest, ugly, raw dish of a book.”-The Wall Street Journal “An honest and vulnerable autobiography that will have you laughing and crying at the same time . . . an absolute must-read.”-CNN “David Chang is one of the most beloved chefs on earth, but his inspiring memoir is not just for foodies. He’s one of the most audaciously openhearted and honest humans you’ll ever find. This book is for anyone who has ever felt like an underdog or an underachiever-or aspires to become an entrepreneur or a more decent person.”-Adam Grant, New York Times bestselling author of Originals and Give and Take, and host of the TED podcast WorkLife “Eat a Peach is not merely an autobiography of a great creative; rather, it’s a compelling philosophy of a man who believes in a beautiful life beyond reach. It is profoundly gratifying to witness Chang marching uphill, step by step, toward his sublime vision. As Chang suffers, rages, and fights for his quest, we can’t help but admire his vulnerability, courage, and conviction.”-Min Jin Lee, author of Free Food for Millionaires and Pachinko, a finalist for the National Book Award “Dave Chang’s writing is honest and vulnerable. As a child of immigrants, the DNA of his story spoke to me. Now I just have to keep up with his drive and tenacity!”-Hasan Minhaj, host of Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj “If you’re looking for a cookbook, this is a terrible choice. Herein you will find the recipe for one of our brightest, most energetic, talented, and inspiring Americans (who also happens to be a chef). David Chang is a great storyteller with a great story to tell.”-Jimmy Kimmel, host of Jimmy Kimmel Live! “This is one of the most compelling chef memoirs in recent memory. . . . Book : It Was Me All Along A Memoir - Mitchell, Andie

-Titulo Original : It Was Me All Along A Memoir-Fabricante : Clarkson Potter-Descripcion Original: NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLERA heartbreakingly honest, endearing memoir of incredible weight loss by a young food blogger who battles body image issues and overcomes food addiction to find self-acceptance. All her life, Andie Mitchell had eaten lustily and mindlessly. Food was her babysitter, her best friend, her confidant, and it provided a refuge from her fractured family. But when she stepped on the scale on her twentieth birthday and it registered a shocking 268 pounds, she knew she had to change the way she thought about food and herself; that her life was at stake. It Was Me All Along takes Andie from working class Boston to the romantic streets of Rome, from morbidly obese to half her size, from seeking comfort in anything that came cream-filled and two-to-a-pack to finding balance in exquisite (but modest) bowls of handmade pasta. This story is about much more than a woman who loves food and abhors her body. It is about someone who made changes when her situation seemed too far gone and how she discovered balance in an off-kilter world. More than anything, though, it is the story of her finding beauty in acceptance and learning to love all parts of herself. Review “Andie Mitchell draws you in from the first cupcake-you taste the creamy frosting, feel every hunger pang, and your heart aches right along with hers. She beautifully exposes the dark and painful struggles of weight loss, food addiction, and self-hate that so many in this country face. Her journey to mental and physical health-the long road to overcoming her obsessive behavior-is so relatable you can’t help but love and cheer for her. Read this book because it offers wonderful lessons for healthy living, being kind to yourself, and finding balance. Read it because its heartbreakingly honest and endearingly educational. Just READ IT!”-Alison Sweeney, host of NBC’s The Biggest Loser “Loving yourself is the bravest thing, and Im so glad Andie found her bravery and was willing to share it. Cheers to chocolate cake in moderation and happiness in abundance!-Giada De Laurentiis, author of Giada’s Feel Good Food “Andies story, in which she takes us along for her 135-pound weight loss journey and makes peace with food, is remarkable. She chooses to see the positives from her past, and she realizes that who she was when she was bigger molded her into the person she is today. Andie is an inspiration to anyone who struggles with the challenges of dieting and weight loss.”-Gina Homolka, author of The Skinnytaste Cookbook “A charming memoir about weight loss and self-discovery.”-People magazine “The book’s biggest surprise is how relatable it is: Beneath the extreme eating scenarios Mitchell describes some universal truths about how women connect and clash with food. …It Was Me All Along is the perfect book to read in January, because Mitchell’s total bluntness will inspire you to have a more honest year.”-Glamour “Anyone embarking on New Year’s resolutions of eating healthier and losing weight will be humbled by reading Andie Mitchell’s memoir, a poetically written, honest account of her struggles with binging, obesity and the traumatic childhood that led her to seek solace in food.”-StyleBistro “In a moving new memoir, It Was Me All Along, Andie Mitchell describes how her life became a prison of calorie-counting, cravings and self-consciousness until she found a comfortable weight.”-Daily Mail “Mitchell’s journey towards acceptance, chronicled in her new memoir, It Was Me All Along, has struck a chord with women everywhere.”- ! News “It Was Me All Along is the strikingly honest story of one woman’s long journey to self-acceptance. It’s a must-read memoir for anyone who has used food to numb the pain rather than nourish the body.”-BookPage “A candid and inspiring memoir.”-Kirkus Reviews About the Author ANDIE MITCHELL is a writer, recipe developer, and lover of cake. -Titulo Original : Provence, 1970 M.f.k. Fisher, Julia Child, James Beard, And The Reinvention Of American Taste-Fabricante : Clarkson Potter-Descripcion Original: Provence, 1970 is about a singular historic moment. In the winter of that year, more or less coincidentally, the iconic culinary figures James Beard, M.F.K. Fisher, Julia Child, Richard Olney, Simone Beck, and Judith Jones found themselves together in the South of France. They cooked and ate, talked and argued, about the future of food in America, the meaning of taste, and the limits of snobbery. Without quite realizing it, they were shaping today’s tastes and culture, the way we eat now. The conversations among this group were chronicled by M.F.K. Fisher in journals and letters-some of which were later discovered by Luke Barr, her great-nephew. In Provence, 1970, he captures this seminal season, set against a stunning backdrop in cinematic scope-complete with gossip, drama, and contemporary relevance.
