-Titulo Original : 100 Flying Birds: Photographing The Mechanics Of Flight-Fabricante : Firefly Books-Descripcion Original: Flight is the essence of birdness. I strive to illustrate the beauty and complexity of avian flight. -- Peter Cavanagh 100 Flying Birds: Photographing the Mechanics of Flight offers a vivid and varied glimpse into the world of birds. A white-tailed eagle plummeting through a Japanese sky, a brown pelican striking a silhouette against an Ecuadorian sunset, an Atlantic puffin carrying its fish dinner above the Scottish coast, or a keel-billed toucan gliding through a Costa Rican jungle canopy; readers will marvel at the splendor of birds in flight while learning the techniques to capture these gravity-defying moments from a world-class nature photographer. For each picture, author and photographer Peter Cavanagh shares his most evocative thoughts: the challenges of the shoot, the beauty of the location, and the curiosities of the species. Bird people will enjoy the bird photographs and facts, travelers will gobble up the tales of distant parts, and photographers will absorb the technical details. For instance, readers might be surprised to see that a very slow shutter speed can freeze the motion of hummingbird wings. Peter Cavanagh has collected 100 beautiful photos spanning a wide range of species. The subjects of each of the 11 chapters are: Eagles Hummingbirds Gulls and Terns Small Waterbirds Large Waterbirds Ducks, Geese and Swans Raptors Condors and Corvids Cranes Songbirds Favorites Through his photographic lens, Peter illuminates the beauty, grace and elegance of birds in flight, building on his knowledge and expertise as a biomechanist and avocations as an airplane pilot and photographer.... His lovely photographs are complemented by engaging prose that provides fascinating historical contexts of his subjects, their flight ecology and conservation status, and guidance for aspiring wildlife photographers on best practices and photographic equipment needed to capture the exceptional quality of the images he shares in his book. -- Andrew A. Book : The Little Book Of Backyard Bird Songs - Pinnington,.

-Titulo Original : The Little Book Of Backyard Bird Songs-Fabricante : Firefly Books-Descripcion Original: Review Heres a book that will help the young bird lover to identify some of the most common North American birds by both sight and sound... The authors provide a short description of where each bird can be found, along with basic details about their food, nests, eggs, size and behaviour. By pushing buttons on the front cover, the birds calls come through a built-in speaker, thus enabling listeners to recognize distinct calls... This book would be useful for young, beginning birders. -- Veronica Uzielli Green Teacher Magazine Published On: 2018-06-01What sets The Little Book of Backyard Bird Songs apart from other introductory bird identification books is the last word in its title. The authors recognize that we frequently hear birds before we actually see them, and so the book links the auditory with the visual. Bound with this sturdy board book and encased in durable plastic is a sound module having 12 song buttons, one for each of the books birds. Pressing the button bearing the portrait of the bird being read about activates the common sound that particular bird makes. The one-inch (3-cm) speaker actually provides excellent sound quality (and a battery is included). The Little Book of Backyard Bird Songs is an excellent home purchase, but it should certainly also be considered by those libraries and classrooms that are willing to accept some bird sounds. Highly Recommended. -- Dave Jenkinson CM: Canadian Review of Materials Published On: 2019-03-08I LOVE birds! Not only is there a clear image and description of each bird but the book includes each birds scientific name, where found, what it feeds on, its nest, its eggs, adult characteristics, and length. Introduction Beautiful art has always inspired me. Being infinitely curious, great paintings draw me closer to investigate brush strokes and colors and make me wonder about methods and techniques used. Well yes, I admit that Im one of those inquisitive people who actually reads labels, instruction manuals and encyclopedias -- because I want to know everything! Starting out as an oil painter when I was in my teens, I switched to using acrylics in 2004 and havent looked back since. Of course, building a successful relationship with acrylics took time and energy, but just as with true friendship, my interest and devotion harvested fruits. I came to know and accept its little idiosyncrasies and weaknesses, as well as its strengths and pleasures. Acrylic paint has become a trusted and dearly beloved friend that still surprises me regularly. I believe that each artist grows and develops along a very personal path, learning through observation, practice and especially by making mistakes. Looking at other artists paintings and work methods is always useful in order to learn, gain insights and sometimes find solutions for our own artwork. The suggestions and demonstrations in this book merely present a few possibilities of expre...

In 11 chapters and an epilog, Long details the basics of building with field stone, taking each step in the rough chronology of the building process. His prose is open and friendly, and the illustrations, both line drawings and photographs, deepen the text. Longs compromise method of construction provides a simpler method of construction than has otherwise been traditionally embraced with stone. A delight and an important work for the aspiring nonprofessional stonemason. Highly recommended.AAlexander Hartmann, Bloomsburg Univ., PA Copyright 1999 Reed Business Information, Inc. The massive strength in solid walls of stone comes more from the material than from skill. And if the lines are not exactly straight, no critics eye can tell which wiggles are the builders and which of them came with the stone. Little mistakes can disappear in the rough-hewn texture of the rock. Despite the forgiving nature of the material and its undeniable beauty, surprisingly few amateur builders are willing to tackle a homemade house of stone. Such reluctance is unfortunate because it is too often based on unfounded fears. As our own stone walls began to grow visible from the road, we attracted a steady stream of passing admirers and critics. The first was a real estate agent, teethed-no doubt-on stockbroker Tudor and relocatable anything. He watched for a while, then shook his head and muttered, Gonna make a hell of a noise when it comes down. Others have been more polite but no more confident in the capacity of two green exurbanites to raise a stone house from scratch. The doubts are usually voiced in one of three ways: What if it falls? It must be more complicated than that! That stuff must weigh...

NutSpace Published On: 2019-03-28There are certain books about a parents unconditional love for a child that are timeless--and this is one of them. Baltimores Child Published On: 2010-01-20One of my all-time favorites. I cry every time I read it.... [The book] is a beautiful script about parenthood, a poignant parable about life and death, a testimony to when the roles of child and parent become blurry. The story reminds you that no matter how grown up you are, youre always someones child; that no matter how adult you are, youre never too old to be loved by your parents. It makes me appreciate even more how my mother still calls me and my brother (despite us being 32- and 22-years-old, respectively) by our childhood nicknames, Pussycat and Tchotchke (Yiddish for knickknack). Pigeonholing this as a childrens book is like saying Romeo & Juliet is merely a cautionary tale about drug abuse. I dare anyone to read this story and not shed at least one tear by the end. Its even more poignant when you learn that Munsch wrote the book as a memorial to two still-born children he and his wife had in 1979 and 1980. -- Dana Lenetz Forbes Published On: 2010-04-20Theres a reason why Love You Forever is still on the bestseller list 24 years after its release. -- Darcy Matheson Daily Hive Published On: 2019-04-26An extraordinarily different story by Robert Munsch is a gentle affirmation of the love a parent feels for their child--forever.
