Book : Boys Dont Knit (in Public) - Easton, T. S.
-Titulo Original : Boys Dont Knit (in Public)-Fabricante : Square Fish-Descripcion Original: After an incident regarding a crossing guard and a bottle of Martini & Rossi (and his friends), 17-year-old worrier Ben Fletcher must develop his sense of social alignment, take up a hobby, and do some community service to avoid any further probation. He takes a knitting class (it was that or his fathers mechanic class) with the impression that its taught by the hot teacher all the boys like. Turns out, its not. Perfect. Regardless, he sticks with it and comes to discover hes a natural knitter, maybe even great. It also helps ease his anxiety and worrying. The only challenge now is to keep it hidden from his friends, his crush, and his soccer-obsessed father. What a tangled web Ben has weaved . . . or knitted.Boys Dont Knit (In Public) by T. S. Easton is a fun, funny young adult novel about a teen boy.Originally published in the U.K., Eastons novel is structured as the journal Ben is required to keep, which makes for a candid and intimate narrative. . . . This funny and lighthearted novel captures the excitement of finding a passion in a story about taking life one stitch at a time. Publishers Weekly Review Originally published in the U.K., Eastons novel is structured as the journal Ben is required to keep, which makes for a candid and intimate narrative. . . . This funny and lighthearted novel captures the excitement of finding a passion in a story about taking life one stitch at a time. Publishers Weekly“Wacky characters, a farcical plot, and a fledgling romance are all part of the fun in this novel that will appeal to fans of Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging.” Kirkus Reviews, starred review“This wild jumble of fun and wool is also full of heart, thanks to Bens sweet, worried, and clever voice. Written in diary format (with a wink and a nod to Bridget Jones), this spins from one outrageous (and occasionally raunchy) incident to the next. But its not all plot and heavy-duty knitting action. Relationships are center stage: the double-entendre bantering of Bens parents; Bens evolving association with the aforementioned crossing guard; his trouble with both women and friends. This one will keep you in stitches.” Booklist, starred review“Teens will laugh out loud as they read about the protagonists knitting and non-knitting escapades in this honest coming-of-age yarn.” School Library Journal“This is a fun romp with a wonderful, self-deprecating hero. Many teens will relate to Ben, the accidental bad boy, and will laugh at his antics and the lengths he goes to to hide his knitting. The story is paced nicely, with many heartwarming and hilarious moments.” VOYA About the Author T. S. Easton is an experienced author of fiction for all ages in the UK. If he can’t find his roots, how can he possibly plan ahead?Robin and Kat meet in the most unlikely of places a summer service trip to Kolkata to work with survivors of human trafficking. You can’t rewind life; sometimes you just have to push play.In turns heart wrenching, beautiful, and buoyant, Mitali Perkinss Forward Me Back to You focuses its lens on the ripple effects of violence across borders and generations and how small acts of heroism can break the cycle. This title has Common Core connections. Review *School Library Journal Best Book!**Kirkus Reviews Best Book!**A Junior Library Guild Selection*The third-person narrative perspective is as accessible as it is literary. Perkins, who was born in Kolkata, India, knows how to write fiction about serious issues such as trauma, healing, identity, cross-cultural service, and social justice. Her inclusive, diverse characters leap off the page with distinctiveness and relatability. Unique and refreshing. VOYA, starred reviewSimple prose belies complex themes around faith, service, personal identity, and trauma, and Perkins adroitly threads carefully balanced perspectives throughout the story and draws readers’ attention to cultural bias. This timely, realistic story filled with lots of heart yet devoid of a pat ending is sure to capture readers’ interests and spark contemplative conversations around global issues and activism. A must-have for teen and new adult collections. School Library Journal: XpressReviews, starred reviewMitali Perkins (You Bring the Distant Near) expertly explores personal identity, faith, trauma and ethnocentrism, cleverly using a dual narrative to depict Kats and Robins individual points of view. Perkins also uses the teens experience in Kolkata to highlight the way many view service when done in cultures other than their own. Forward Me Back to You respectfully tackles heavy issues with a poignant, honest and refreshing outlook. Shelf Awareness, starred reviewA budding romance, a richly evoked setting, and beautiful intergenerational relationships pepper this story . . . a surprisingly sweet and delicately plotted novel . . . Perkins present-tense prose and the use of stage direction-like notations about scene locations work to give the book an ethereal tone, a dreamy contrast to the grit and sadness that the characters endure, and more reflective of the overall message of hope, connectedness, and love. BooklistIn fast-moving prose that is layered with emotion rage, grief, dismay, hope, vulnerability, love Perkins’s novel pulses with heart and questions of identity as well as talk of faith, prayer, God, and social justice. Publishers Weekly Perkins (You Bring the Distant Near, 2017, etc.) celebrates Christian faith, superheroes, and Kolkata life through the interleaved perspectives of sympathetic and earnest protagonists and in simple language that speaks straight to the heart. A hymn to faith, friendship, and social justice, sung by gentle men and strong women of many colors and ages. Kirkus ReviewsWhat both protagonists face as survivors of different traumas are thoughtfully represented in Perkins’ considerations of a setting where adoption and sex trafficking go hand-and-hand and in her convincingly reflective teenage perspectives. And yet, here they both are at Camp Fielding, settling in with all the other losers and misfits whove been shipped off by their parents in a last-ditch effort to produce a child worth bragging about. But strange disappearances, spooky lights in the woods, and a chilling alteration that turns the dimmest, rowdiest campers into docile zombie Einsteins have Jenna and Lucas feeling more than a little suspicious . . . and a lot afraid. Review “Bright and expressive drawing.” Publishers Weekly“From its shock opening right out of a horror movie, this graphic novel sets the scene for an old-fashioned scare story. . . . Well-rounded adventure.” Booklist“Kim and Klavan offer a sly social commentary with a fizzy dash of stomach-lurching horror. Hickss chunky art goes to town with the revolting possibilities. Smart, disgusting fun.” Kirkus Reviews“A quick and quirky graphic novel.” School Library Journal“Excellent, and the combination of horror, suspense, and love story are likely to interest a much broader audience than any one theme alone. Illustrations support the plot well and offer a great, if revolting, view of the aliens.” Childrens Literature“Though Jenna and Lucas are a rather typical offbeat pairing, they are still a fun duo to follow as they try to get to the bottom of Camp Fielding. The art is very well done and complements the story, depicting it exceptionally well. . . . The Horn BookUn libro en EspañolLibro Notable de la ALASpanish translation of the story of the Tuck family, doomed to - or blessed with - eternal life after drinking from a magic spring. The Tuck family wanders about trying to live as inconspicuously and comfortably as they can. When ten-year-old Winnie Foster stumbles on their secret, the Tucks take her home and explain why living forever at one age is less a blessing that it might seem. Complications arise when Winnie is followed by a starnger who wants to market the spring water for a fortune.“Rarely does one find a book with such prose. Flawless in both style and structure, it is rich in imagery and punctuated with light fillips of humor. The author manipulates her plot deftly, dealing with six main characters brought together because of a spring whose waters can bestow everlasting life. . . Underlying the drama is the dilemma of the age-old desire for perpetual youth.” The Horn Book Review Tuck para siempre:Problemente el mejor trabajo de nuestro mejor novelista para niños.
