Book : C Programming Language, 2nd Edition - Brian W....
-Titulo Original : C Programming Language, 2nd Edition-Fabricante : Pearson-Descripcion Original: The authors present the complete guide to ANSI standard C language programming. Written by the developers of C, this new version helps readers keep up with the finalized ANSI standard for C while showing how to take advantage of Cs rich set of operators, economy of expression, improved control flow, and data structures. The 2/E has been completely rewritten with additional examples and problem sets to clarify the implementation of difficult language constructs. For years, C programmers have let K&R guide them to building well-structured and efficient programs. Now this same help is available to those working with ANSI compilers. Includes detailed coverage of the C language plus the official C language reference manual for at-a-glance help with syntax notation, declarations, ANSI changes, scope rules, and the list goes on and on. Review Just about every C programmer I respect learned C from this book. Unlike many of the 1,000 page doorstops stuffed with CD-ROMs that have become popular, this volume is concise and powerful (if somewhat dangerous) -- like C itself. And it was written by Kernighan himself. Need we say more? From the Publisher This second editon describes C as defined by the ANSI standard. This book is meant to help the reader learn how to program in C. The book assumes some familiarity with basic programming concepts like variables, assignment statements, loops, and functions. A novice programmer should be able to read along and pick up the language. From the Inside Flap Preface The computing world has undergone a revolution since the publication of The C Programming Language in 1978. Big computers are much bigger, and personal computers have capabilities that rival the mainframes of a decade ago. During this time, C has changed too, although only modestly, and it has spread far beyond its origins as the language of the UNIX operating system. The growing popularity of C, the changes in the language over the years, and the creation of compilers by groups not involved in its design, combined to demonstrate a need for a more precise and more contemporary definition of the language than the First edition of this book provided. In 1983, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) established a committee whose goal was to produce an unambiguous and machine-independent definition of the language C, while still retaining its spirit. The result is the ANSI standard for C. The standard formalizes constructions that were hinted at but not described in the first edition, particularly structure assignment and enumerations. It provides a new form of function declaration that permits cross-checking of defini-tion with use. It specifies a standard library, with an extensive set of functions for performing input and output, memory management, string manipulation, and similar tasks. It makes precise the behavior of features that were not spelled out in the original definition, and at the same time states explicitly which aspects of the language remain machine-dependent. This second edition of The C Programming Language describes C as defined by the ANSI standard. Although we have noted the places where the language has evolved, we have chosen to write exclusively in the new form. For the most part, this makes no significant difference; the most visible change is the new form of function declaration and definition. Modern compilers already support most features of the standard. We have tried to retain the brevity of the first edition. C is not a big language, and it is not well served by a big book. We have improved the exposition of critical features, such as pointers, that are central to C programming. We have refined the original examples, and have added new examples in several chapters. For instance, the treatment of complicated declarations is augmented by programs that convert declarations into words and vice versa. As before, all examples have ... -

The Agile software process allows a company to implement eXtreme Programming quickly and immediately-and to begin producing software incrementally in as little as 30 days! Implementing eXtreme Programming is easier said than done. The process can be time consuming and actually slow down current software projects that are in process. This book shows readers how to use SCRUM, an Agile software development process, to quickly and seamlessly implement XP in their shop-while still producing actual software. Using SCRUM and the Agile process can virtually eliminate all downtime during an XP implementation. Review Agile development methods are key to the future of flexible software systems. Scrum is one of the vanguards of the new way to buy and manage software development when business conditions are changing. This book distills both the theory and practice and is essential reading for anyone who needs to cope with software in a volatile world. Martin Fowler, industry consultant and CTO, ThoughtWorks Most executives today are not happy with their organizations ability to deliver systems at reasonable cost and timeframes. Yet, if pressed, they will admit that they dont think their software developers are not competent. If its not the engineers, then what is it that prevents fast development at reasonable cost? Scrum gives the answer to the question and the solution to the problem. Alan Buffington, industry consultant, former Present, Fidelity Systems Company From the Back Cover Arguably the most important book about managing technology and systems development efforts, this book describes building systems using the deceptively simple process, Scrum. Book : Telecommunications Wiring - Herrick, Clyde
-Titulo Original : Telecommunications Wiring-Fabricante : Pearson-Descripcion Original: For technician level courses in telecommunications cabling. This fully updated wiring reference reflects the latest NEC wiring standards. Students and future telecommunications installers should find the discussion on standardization in setting methods for identifying and labeling useful. The suggested standards should help in the establishment of labeling standards for cabling, patch panels, wiring closets, floor locations, and equipment. Students should find the topic on cabling systems, supports and test hardware, proper installation techniques and wire and fiber characteristics useful in planning of a cabling system. Offers students guidelines for planning, installation, and testing of the cabling system. From the Inside Flap Preface The third edition of Telecommunications Wiring has been expanded to include NEC Fire Code requirements for communication wiring, Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) technology, and current wiring and network technology. The data communication field has changed rapidly since the publication of the first edition of Telecommunication Wiring. Great strides have been made in the data rates and distance capability of copper wire. Interconnectivity of different protocols has improved both nationally and internationally. The expansion of the Internet and technologies that allow data, voice, and video on the same wire will, in many cases, require reexamination of communication planning. The competition demands that every resource, including wiring systems, need to be utilized to their maximum. The need for special wiring systems and greater capacity cabling for data communication equipment has created a generation of new job categories in the workplace such as telecommunication manager, communication wire planner, information system manager, connectivity specialist, communication wiring specialist, and so on. In our occupation areas, it is obvious that there is a need for a text dedicated to the nuts and bolts of telecommunication systems and cabling. Many books have been written on higher level subjects in telecommunication such as local area networking, designing LANs, telecommunication systems, and so on. However, the cabling and wiring sections of such books seldom offer any practical information for those involved in designing, installation, testing, or updating of wiring systems that are critical to the operation of any telecommunication system. The cabling should be treated as a dynamic source rather than a static one. These cabling systems, whether a single coax or a complete wiring plant, should be treated as a major support subsystem. Management will find helpful the discussion on the importance of having a complete inventory of installed cable and wiring runs to determine in place capacity versus in place used capacity. The chapter on task management will assist the manager in giving direction and leadership to the installation team, the maintenance team, and upper management in preparing the proposal and evaluation of the finished product. Telecommunication cable installers, planners, managers, and audit teams should find useful the discussion on standardization in setting up methods for identifying and labeling. This topic will be particularly helpful if the system has gone through several installs without a set of universal standards. These suggested standards should be a help in the establishment of corporate labeling standards for cabling, patch panels, wiring closets, floor locations, and equipment. The wiring specialist and telecommunication planners/designers should find the topic on cabling systems, supports and test hardware, proper installation techniques, and wire and fiber characteristics useful in the planning of a cabling and wiring system. The chapter on planning the wiring installation offers the wiring specialist guidelines for planning, installation, and testing the cabling system. Finally the chapter on premise wirin... -

-Titulo Original : A Friendly Introduction To Numerical Analysis.-Fabricante : Pearson-Descripcion Original: For one or two-semester undergraduate/graduate-level courses in Numerical Analysis/Methods in mathematics departments, CS departments, and all engineering departments. This student-friendly text develops concepts and techniques in a clear, concise, easy-to-read manner, followed by fully-worked examples. Application problems drawn from the literature of many different fields prepares students to use the techniques covered to solve a wide variety of practical problems. Review I am extremely impressed with Bradies book. His passion for explaining things as clearly and understandably as possible, his thorough research of the literature for bringing relevant and pedagogically sound examples from outside mathematics, and his crisp and clear style will certainly make this text an instant success. This is one of the better texts in Numerical Analysis that I have ever seen, and I congratulate the author for producing such a gem. Alejandro Engel, Rochester Institute of Technology The chapters in this book are of uniformly high standards. Chapter 1 in particular is a gem. The treatments of floating point number systems and of floating point arithmetic are especially good. These are topics that are often glossed over in other books, and which are often difficult for students to grasp. The book is extremely well written: the style is clear, the prose flows smoothly, the pace is unhurried, the tone is friendly and conversational, the examples and exercises are interesting and-relevant, and the amount of detail is far greater than in any textbook of its kind that I have ever seen. For these reasons, it will certainly appeal to my students. Richard Zalik, Auburn University I think the tone will appeal to my students: It is relaxed and friendly without being wordy and effusive. The style is a very readable compromise between proof and technical detail on the one hand, and concepts with applications on the other. I think he addresses this fundamental challenge in a way that my students would like. Bradie has decided to include lots of worked examples accompanied by plots. The plots facilitate the inclusion of such a large number of examples, by succinctly communicating the point of each. This reduces the effort needed to understand the ideas behind the example, (I think students simply will not read the book if it takes too much effort. Bradie can include more exercises than is typical because the illustrations ease the communication.) Mark Arnold, University of Arkansas I like the way Bradie presents the materials in each chapter. He gives a mathematics review on what is needed at the beginning of each chapter. After refreshing students memories, he begins with the simplest, most basic methods and then progresses gradually to more advanced topics. The book is well written and student-friendly. It provides a lot of examples and exercise problems. The book is written in the way that is easy for students to read. For instance, for each method, there is at least one fully worked example that helps students to understand the concept and the method. Kuiyuan Li, University of West Florida From the Back Cover This reader-friendly introduction to the fundamental concepts and techniques of numerical analysis/numerical methods develops concepts and techniques in a clear, concise, easy-to- read manner, followed by fully-worked examples. Music for Sight Singing is structured around organized melodiesdrawn from the literature of composed music and a wide range of the world’s folk music. Real music exercises allow readers to practice sight singing and develop their “mind’s ear” - the ability to imagine how music sounds without first playing it on an instrument. The ninth edition continues to introduce a host of important musical considerations beyond pitch and rhythm- including dynamics, accents, articulations, slurs, repeat signs, and tempo markings. The book’s arrangement of simple to complex exercises lays the foundations for success. Learning Goals Upon completing this book, readers will be able to: Fluently read rhythms in simple and compound meters, including those in relatively unusual, irregular, or changing meter signatures. Sight sing melodies in any major or minor key, and in any diatonic mode. Effortlessly read all four common clefs. Understand common musical symbols and terms. Recognize and sing important harmonic features such as dominant seventh and Neapolitan chords. Improvise effectively from a variety of background structures such as a harmonic progression or an underlying contrapuntal framework. [The text] meets our need well and has stood the test of time.” - Robert Mills, Liberty University “The most significant challenge facing the students is developing the skills and abilities quickly enough to maintain pace with the curriculum. I believe it is more of a time issue (lack of practice time, or student choice to avoid practice) than a curriculum pacing issue. This text responds very nicely to this challenge; we have the freedom to set the pace as needed to sufficiently challenge, but not overwhelm, the student population.” - William Harbinson, Appalachian State University “The most important feature of any aural skills and sight-singing book is that it includes real musical examples. For this alone, Music for Sight Singing is indispensable.” - Jill T. Brasky, University of South Florida “The sequence is logical. Progression from quarter to other note values is excellent. It is a great introduction to rhythms, one step at a time.” - James Hutching, Carl Sandburg College About the Author Nancy Rogers is an Associate Professor of Music Theory at Florida State University. With research interests including music cognition and its pedagogical implications, Dr. Rogers has presented papers at national and international conferences, including meetings of the Society for Music Theory, the Society for Music Perception and Cognition, the International Conference on Music Perception and Cognition, and the Conference on Interdisciplinary Musicology. Book : A World Of Art (7th Edition) - Sayre, Henry M.
-Titulo Original : A World Of Art (7th Edition)-Fabricante : Pearson-Descripcion Original: P rovide your students with an introduction to art that is inclusive and emphasizes critical thinking! Henry Sayre’s art appreciation text, The World of Art, is an amazing introduction to the world of art. Students with little background in the arts routinely reach out to Henry to share how the text has influenced their lives. This is so meaningful because Henry’s inspiration for A World of Art was his own students. His students wanted to see themselves reflected in their textbook. Henry decided to write an art appreciation textbook that represented all artists, not just the Western canon found at that time in the other texts. He also created a text that fostered critical thinking through looking at, talking about, and questioning works of art for his students. The result was A World of Art and the new seventh edition continues to build on those two themes- coverage of contemporary global art and a strong critical thinking framework throughout the text. This edition includes new ways for students to experience art with the new MyArtsLab, which includes ART 21 videos, Discovering Art simulations, Closer Look tours, and an eText of Writing about Art, also by Henry Sayre. A better teaching and learning experience This program will provide a better teaching and learning experience- for you and your students. Here’s how: Personalize Learning - The new MyArtsLab delivers proven results in helping students succeed, provides engaging experiences that personalize learning, and comes from a trusted partner with educational expertise and a deep commitment to helping students and instructors achieve their goals. Improve Critical Thinking - The author fosters critical thinking skills by integrating critical thinking based on learning objectives, and end-of-the-chapter “The Critical Process” features. Engage Students - The new MyArtsLab Challenge is a fresh take on assessment offering a “game-like” atmosphere for students to master chapter material. Upon successful completion of each level, students unlock works of art to create their own personal gallery to share with their peers.
