Libro : Rosaura A Las Diez - Marco Denevi
-Titulo Original : Rosaura A Las Diez (Spanish Edition)-Fabricante : Pearson-Descripcion Original: Marco Denevi’s Rosaura a las diez comes to the classroom with an already established reputation as one of the most successful Latin American novels of the past decade. It was published in 1955 as the first-prize winner in the Guillermo Kraft novel competition of that year, and was the author’s first novel. The book’s vocabulary is rich, colloquial, and spiced with words and expressions that give it the individual flavor of the Spanish spoken in the Argentine Republic. It is by no means, however, a regional novel from the standpoint of dialect or profuseness of argentinismos. It is written, rather, in a standard, colloquial Spanish relatively free of uncommon terms requiring clarification in footnotes. The voseo form of familiar address, which IS regional and peculiar to informal Argentine speech, figures only slightly - toward the end of the novel - and there appropriate footnotes are given. The student will find an abundant final vocabulary at the back of the book; but it is by no means a complete one. To teach one to read with ease is one of the principal aims of this text. To this end, the student will occasionally find himself referred to his own resourcefulness in the case of words he will want to look up, but will not find in the vocabulary. If a given word is not in the vocabulary, its absence - excluding editorial oversight - is owing to the fact that 1) it has been assumed to be a word familiar to the average second-year level student, or 2) it is a guessable word. Following all the vocabulary tips provided, one cannot help but find the reading that lies herein pleasant and richly rewarding... -

Book : Reflexiones Introduccion A La Literatura Hispanica -.
-Titulo Original : Reflexiones Introduccion A La Literatura Hispanica-Fabricante : Pearson-Descripcion Original: Reflexiones is a rich literary anthology, spanning several centuries and including nearly every major writer of Spain and Latin America. Reflexiones offers an introduction to Hispanic literature focused on training students to understand and analyze literary texts, genres, and period concepts. This program places Hispanic literature within the broad framework of the humanities as well as the historical and cultural context of its creation. Reflexiones is more than an anthology; the book helps students learn how to analyze and appreciate literature and to recognize the relationship of the featured texts to cultural manifestations and the relevance to their own lives. This is accomplished through five subdivisions within each selection, meant to expand upon the reading: La literatura y la vida, En contexto, Para comprender, Para interpretar and Cultura, conexiones y comparaciones. After using this book, readers should be able to: * Improve their literary criticism skills - Reflexiones introduces students to literary criticism through short passages of critical observations from scholars. They are then asked to explain them or to agree or take issue with the commentary. * Better analyze Spanish literature thematically - The reading selections in Reflexiones are focused around six fundamental themes: social reality, gender issues, time and space, human relationships, and the complexity of existence as well as that of literary creation. * Place readings within a cultural and chronological context - Within each chapter of the book, the selections are subdivided into three cultural and historical periods: the Medieval era, the Renaissance (sixteenth and seventeenth centuries), and the modern era (nineteenth through the twenty-first centuries) About the Author Rodney Rodriguez is an Emeritus Professor of Spanish at Manhattan College in New York City. A native of Tampa, Florida, he received his undergraduate degree from Florida State University and his advanced degrees from Northwestern University (Evanston, IL). About the Author Wynn Kapit, the designer and illustrator of this book, has had careers in law, graphic and advertising design, painting, and teaching. In 1955, he graduated from law school, with honors, from the University of Miami and was admitted to the Florida Bar. He practiced law both before and after military service. Four years later, he decided to pursue a childhood ambition and enrolled at what is now the Art Center College in Los Angeles, where he studied graphic design. Afterwards, he worked in the New York advertising world for six years as a designer and art director. He dropped out in the late 1960s, returned to California, and began painting. His numerous exhibitions included a one-man show at the California Palace of the Legion of Honor in 1968. He returned to school and received a masters degree in painting from the University of California at Berkeley in 1972. Kapit was teaching figure drawing in Adult Ed in San Francisco in 1975 when he decided he needed to learn more about bones and muscles. He enrolled in Dr. Elsons anatomy class at San Francisco City College. While he was a student, he created the word-and-illustration coloring format that seemed to be a remarkably effective way of learning the subject. He showed some layouts to Dr. Elson and indicated his intention to do a coloring book on bones and muscles for artists. Immediately recognizing the potential of this method, Dr. Elson encouraged Kapit to do a complete coloring book on anatomy and offered to collaborate on the project. The first edition of The Anatomy Coloring Book was published in 1977, and its immediate success inspired the development of a completely new field of publishing: educational coloring books. Kapit went on to create The Physiology Coloring Book with the assistance of two professors who were teaching at Berkeley: Dr. Robert I. Macey and Dr. Esmail Meisami. That book was published in 1987 and has gone through two editions. In the early 1990s, Kapit wrote and designed The Geography Coloring Book, now in its second edition. Lawrence M. Elson, PhD, planned the content and organization, provided sketches, and wrote the text for the book. This is his seventh text, having authored Its Your Body and The Zoology Coloring Book and co-authored The Human Brain Coloring Book and The Microbiology Coloring Book. He received his BA in zoology and pre-med at the University of California at Berkeley and continued there to receive his PhD in human anatomy. Dr. Elson was assistant professor of anatomy at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, participated in the development of the Physicians Assistant Program, lectured and taught dissection anatomy at the University of California School of Medicine in San Francisco, and taught general anatomy, from protozoons to humans, at City College of San Francisco. In his younger days, Dr. Elson trained to become a naval aviator and went on to fly dive-bombers off aircra... -

Key strengths are: 1) the deliberate inclusion of application..; 2) the up-to-date treatment of topics, such as diversity and bullying; 3) in-depth attention to topics that are absolutely critical to education and other applied settings with children but often get less attention, such as self-regulation and temperament; 4) the eText supplemental materials, especially the videos, self-checks, and application features, are excellent complements to the text content and definitely increase the usefulness of this text for students of all levels... This work is superior to other texts I have used in my child psychology courses. It contains more sophistication in terms of depth of coverage, applied examples, detail, and coverage of timely topics.” - Kathleen Moritz Rudasill, University of Nebraska, Lincoln “Courses in education tend to cover pedagogy or methods and developmental psychologists talk about cognitive development and processes. This is one of the reasons I appreciate this text because it takes what we know from the literature in child development and allows the students to apply it to the educational setting... This text has always provided a great deal of resources for both the instructors and the students. It is a great text with a great deal of material to enhance student learning.” - Laura Dinehart, Florida International University “I love this textbook... In every edition, there are... new features... [that] I love... Integrating technology, adopting the most up-to-date information and giving examples from real life make the textbook very rich, interactive, and easy to study. The authors have a sincere understanding of the nature of our students... This is the most useful and effective textbook I have ever used... [And] the eText features are very effective, timely, and appropriate... [and] make learning very interactive and engaging. The videos, self assessments and interactive exercises are very powerful tools.” - Nurun N. Begum, East Stroudsburg University “I think [ Child Development and Education] does a great job bridging the gaps between theory and real life application. It gives great information, while also giving practical applications... All of the etext features are very user friendly, very important to the reader, and do so much for helping the reader understand and make sure they know the material and can be held res...
