Book : Cross The Tracks A Memoir - Badazz, Boosie
-Titulo Original : Cross The Tracks A Memoir-Fabricante : Gallery Books-Descripcion Original: From one of rap’s most evocative writers comes a stirring memoir and “masterpiece of a book” (Snoop Dogg) about how Boosie Badazz, one of the industry’s most controversial figures, was able to overcome insurmountable odds to make his music dreams a reality. A Baton Rouge native who began rapping at age fourteen, Boosie Badazz was already a cult hero in Louisiana when, in 2009, he was sentenced to two years in prison. The next year, he was indicted on even more serious charges, eventually landing him on Death Row. Prosecutors played Boosie’s music in the courtroom to paint him as a thug with no chance of redemption. However, against overwhelming odds and the backdrop of a social media campaign to #FreeBoosie, he was freed in March of 2014 with a rare second chance to make his music dreams come true. With illuminating prose, this “truly great read” (DJ Vlad, CEO of VladTV) explores the relationship between Boosie’s life on the streets with his ceaseless tear through the rap industry. From near-death experiences to a ruthless bout with kidney cancer to a life-threatening diabetes diagnosis, Boosie has overcome remarkable challenges to make a name for himself as one of rap’s most influential voices. A redemptive story with an urgent voice, Cross the Tracks is the survival tale of a man who wasn’t sure he would live to see another day...but who rose from the ashes to change the rap industry forever. In this holiday-themed novel from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Mistletoe Promise and The Walk, a man receives the best Christmas present he could ask for: the chance to rewrite the past. Bestselling romance author Jacob Churcher hasnt been home for almost twenty years-not since his mentally ill mother kicked him out of the house when he was just sixteen. When a lawyer calls, days before Christmas, to inform him that his estranged mother has passed away and left her house to him, Jacob returns not just to settle the estate but to try and reconcile with the past and the pain and abuse he experienced as a child. Also, maybe cleaning out her house will be slightly less depressing than spending the holidays alone, watching re-runs of Christmas classics. But as it turns out, the house holds more than just difficult memories, Jacob’s mother had become a hoarder and he must excavate through two decades worth of clutter. As Jacob digs through the detritus, like an archaeologist, he uncovers many puzzling items including a diary left by someone named Noel, a young woman he has no recollection of, who stayed with Jacob’s family during her pregnancy. That’s not the only echo from the past. Jacob has an unexpected visitor, Rachel, a woman looking for the mother who put her up for adoption thirty years before. United by their quest to make sense of the past and rewrite their futures, Jacob and Rachel begin a search for Noel. Along the way they find more than they possibly imagined, including grace, forgiveness and a chance at love. Book : The World Deserves My Children - Leggero, Natasha
-Titulo Original : The World Deserves My Children-Fabricante : Gallery Books-Descripcion Original: A laugh-out-loud funny collection of insightful and razor-sharp essays on motherhood in our post-apocalyptic world from comedian Natasha Leggero. When Natasha Leggero got pregnant at forty-two after embarking on the grueling IVF process, she was over the moon. But once her feelings of bliss dissipated, she couldn’t help but shake the lingering question: Am I doing this right? And then, Should I be doing this if the world is about to end? In The World Deserves My Children, Natasha explores themes like “geriatric” motherhood, parenting in an environmental panic, fear and love, discipline (and conflicting schools of thought on how not to raise a brat), and more. Ultimately, Natasha determines that motherhood is worth it. After all, where do you think the next five generations of humans will be if the only people who are having kids don’t believe in science? The world deserves my children. Review “This is by far the funniest book I’ve ever read about parenting. If you have a child, you will die laughing. If you are childfree, you will laugh your ass off at everything you avoided by sticking to your guns about the true meaning of freedom.” -Chelsea Handler, New York Times bestselling author of Life Will Be the Death of Me… and You Too! “The only guide to motherhood after the apocalypse you’ll ever need. Deeply, darkly funny.” -Ali Wong, New York Times bestselling author of Dear Girls “Ironically-as Natasha hated breast feeding-this book is mother’s milk for mothers.” -Chelsea Peretti, comedian, actor, director Riotously funny…. a consistently uproarious look at the rocky roads that often line early motherhood as well as the moments that (hopefully) make it all worthwhile. -The San Francisco Chronicle [Natashas] essays shine with wit and warmth, turning an irreverent eye toward what the future may hold for the global warming generation. -Washington Post “In this irreverent debut… no topic is off-limits; Leggero bares all about ‘geriatric pregnancy,’ breastfeeding, parental anxiety, and her conversion to ‘Jew-by-choice’… this will induce grins from stand-up fans who’ve been missing shows because they can’t get a babysitter.” -Publishers Weekly “A humorous assessment of parenting [that] will resonate with a wide variety of readers, including breastfeeding and pandemic-era parenting, though she satirically skewers just about everything else with gleeful abandon… Leggero’s snark comes fast and furious throughout biting quips about nannies and the terror of having her elderly parents babysit…Overall, she achieves a commendable balance among practical advice, wry commentary, and over-the-top offensiveness… The benefits and headaches of later-life motherhood from a candid, often hilarious comedic mind.”-Kirkus Reviews About the Author Natasha Leggero is an accomplished actress, writer, and stand-up comedian who has garnered attention across film, television, and the web. She created, wrote, produced, and starred in the Comedy Central sitcom, Another Period, a period piece and spoof on modern day reality shows. Book : The Many Lives Of Pusheen The Cat (i Am Pusheen) -...
-Titulo Original : The Many Lives Of Pusheen The Cat (i Am Pusheen)-Fabricante : Gallery Books-Descripcion Original: A delightful new collection of comics from Pusheen in all of her adorable forms-from the classic gray tabby you know and love, to her unicorn, dragon, alien, mermaid, dinosaur, and even dog alter egos-Pusheen always lives life to the fullest! We all know Pusheen, the pleasantly plump cat who has warmed hearts and tickled funny bones of millions worldwide with her signature animated bops, bounces, and tail wiggles. Now you can learn what makes her purr and find out why so many have already fallen in love with her. This delightful collection of comics and illustrations features some of the most popular and purr-fectly adorable Pusheen comics you know and love, plus a healthy serving of never-before-seen material. The Many Lives of Pusheen the Cat is a treat for cat lovers and comics fans alike. From School Library Journal Gr 1 Up-Sorry, Garfield, theres a new cat in town, Pusheen, a webcomic star-turned-worldwide phenomenon. Where Garfield was sarcastic and arrogant, Pusheen is just plain cute. A small gray cat, she has led many lives and worn many faces. From dragon to detective to unicorn cat, Pusheens manifestations are illustrated here in a series of colorful and humorous vignettes with minimal text (many childrens picture books have more). However, the appeal of Pusheen is visual, and the limited text adds humor to the adorable illustrations. Chapters vary in length, meaning some readers may find their favorite flavor of Pusheen less well represented. Still, fans of Pusheen (as well as lovers of other ridiculously cute cartoon icons such as Hello Kitty or Gudetama) will chuckle and coo over this volume, as will most cat owners. VERDICT A book that will appeal to a wide age range of readers, as many preteens (and older) will enjoy it just as much as their younger siblings. On the night of her high school graduation, Richelle Bach’s father gives her and her identical twin sister, Michelle, matching opal necklaces. “These opals look identical,” he tells them, “but the fire inside each is completely unique-just like the two of you.” Indeed, the two sisters couldn’t be more different, and their paths diverge as they embark on adulthood. Years pass, until-at their father’s behest-they both come home for Christmas. What happens then forever damages their relationship, and Richelle vows never to see or speak to her sister again. In their father’s last days, he asks Richelle to forgive Michelle, a deathbed promise she never fulfills as her twin is killed in an accident. Now, painfully alone and broken, caring for the sickest of children in a hospital PICU, Richelle has one last dream: to be an author. The plot of her book, The Prodigal Daughter, is a story based on her sister’s life. It’s not until she meets Justin Ek, a man who harbors his own loss, that a secret promise is revealed, and Richelle learns that the story she’s writing is not about her sister, but about herself. Book : My Travels With Mrs. Kennedy - Hill, Clint
-Titulo Original : My Travels With Mrs. Kennedy-Fabricante : Gallery Books-Descripcion Original: NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER The #1 New York Times bestselling authors of Mrs. Kennedy and Me reveal never-before-told stories of Secret Service Agent Clint Hill’s travels with Jacqueline Kennedy through Europe, Asia, and South America. Featuring more than two hundred rare and never-before-published photographs. While preparing to sell his home in Alexandria, Virginia, retired Secret Service agent Clint Hill uncovers an old steamer trunk in the garage, triggering a floodgate of memories. As he and Lisa McCubbin, his coauthor on three previous books, pry it open for the first time in fifty years, they find forgotten photos, handwritten notes, personal gifts, and treasured mementos from the trips on which Hill accompanied First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy as her Secret Service agent-trips that took them from Paris to London, through India, Pakistan, Greece, Morocco, Mexico, South America, and “three glorious weeks on the Amalfi Coast.” During these journeys, Jacqueline Kennedy became one of her husband’s-and America’s-greatest assets; in Hill’s words and the opinion of many others, “one of the best ambassadors the United States has ever had.” As each newfound treasure sparks long-suppressed memories, Hill provides new insight into the intensely private woman he always called “Mrs. Kennedy” and who always called him “Mr. Hill.” For the first time, he reveals the depth of the relationship that developed between them as they traveled around the globe. Now ninety years old, Hill recounts the tender moments, the private laughs, the wild adventures, and the deep affection he shared with one of the world’s most beautiful and iconic women-and these memories are brought vividly to life alongside more than two hundred rare photographs, many of them previously unpublished. In addition to the humorous stories and intimate moments, Hill reveals startling details about how traveling helped them both heal during the excruciating weeks and months following the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in November 1963. He also writes of the year he spent protecting Mrs. Kennedy after the assassination, a time in his life he has always been reluctant to speak about. My Travels with Mrs. Kennedy unveils a personal side of history that has never been told before and takes the reader on a breathtaking journey, experiencing what it was like for Clint Hill to travel with Jacqueline Kennedy as the entire world was falling in love with her. Book : The People We Keep - Larkin, Allison
-Titulo Original : The People We Keep-Fabricante : Gallery Books-Descripcion Original: BOOK RIOT’S BEST BOOKS OF 2021 “This is a novel of great empathy, about connections and coming-of-age, built families and self-acceptance. It contains heartbreak and redemption, and a plucky, irresistible protagonist…[A] propulsive, empathetic novel.” -Shelf Awareness Little River, New York, 1994: April Sawicki is living in a motorless motorhome that her father won in a poker game. Failing out of school, picking up shifts at a local diner, she’s left fending for herself in a town where she’s never quite felt at home. When she “borrows” her neighbor’s car to perform at an open mic night, she realizes her life could be much bigger than where she came from. After a fight with her dad, April packs her stuff and leaves for good, setting off on a journey to find a life that’s all hers. Driving without a chosen destination, she stops to rest in Ithaca. Her only plan is to survive, but as she looks for work, she finds a kindred sense of belonging at Cafe Decadence, the local coffee shop. Still, somehow, it doesn’t make sense to her that life could be this easy. The more she falls in love with her friends in Ithaca, the more she can’t shake the feeling that she’ll hurt them the way she’s been hurt. As April moves through the world, meeting people who feel like home, she chronicles her life in the songs she writes and discovers that where she came from doesn’t dictate who she has to be. This lyrical, luminous tale “is both a profound love letter to creative resilience and a reminder that sometimes even tragedy can be a kind of blessing” (Caroline Leavitt, New York Times bestselling author). Review “I loved everything about The People We Keep, beginning with the narrator, April Sawicki, who is both wise beyond her years and unbelievably naive, to the fact it’s 1994 and no one has a cell phone. Allison Larkin has given us a heroine who is raw and real, a young person capable of breaking your heart one moment and lifting it up the next.” -Chris Bohjalian, New York Times bestselling author of The Flight Attendant and Hour of the Witch This book is for everyone who has known or has been the tough and troubled outsider in search of their place and their people. Its a story so true and tender-hearted that I want to wrap it in a hug and buy it some soup. Read it! Youll be so glad you did. -Therese Fowler, New York Times bestselling author of Z: A Novel of Zelda Fitzgerald and A Well-Behaved Woman “Raw, surprising and ultimately uplifting, Allison Larkin’s The People We Keep will break your heart a million different ways before putting it back together again.” -Julia Claiborne Johnson, author of Be Frank with Me and Better Luck Next Time What does it mean to feel at home in the world? To find our true family? In Larkin’s luminous new novel, a young songwriter steals a car, hits the road, and struggles against all odds to try to find the answer. About the people we choose-and even more importantly the people who choose us-The People We Keep is both a profound love letter to creative resilience and a reminder that sometimes even tragedy can be a kind of blessing. -Caroline Leavitt, New York Times bestselling author of Pictures of You, Cruel Beautiful World, and With or Without You An emotionally gripping journey with one of the most compelling and determined protagonists I’ve met in a long time. April had me on the first page and hasn’t let me go yet. Her quest to heal deep childhood wounds and find her true place in the world is one that will resonate with every reader. -Titulo Original : The Deep A Novel-Fabricante : Gallery Books-Descripcion Original: From the acclaimed author of The Troop-a book that is “utterly terrifying” (Clive Barker). “Fans of unflinching bleakness and all-out horror will love this novel….Each new shock is freshly disturbing” (Publishers Weekly, starred review). A strange plague called the ‘Gets is decimating humanity on a global scale. It causes people to forget-small things at first, like where they left their keys, then the not-so-small things, like how to drive or the letters of the alphabet. Their bodies forget how to function involuntarily. There is no cure. But far below the surface of the Pacific Ocean, a universal healer hailed as “ambrosia” has been discovered. In order to study this phenomenon, a special research lab has been built eight miles under the sea’s surface. But when the station goes incommunicado, a brave few descend through the lightless fathoms in hopes of unraveling the mysteries lurking at those crushing depths…and perhaps to encounter an evil blacker than anything one could possibly imagine. About the Author Nick Cutter is the author of the critically acclaimed national bestseller The Troop (which is currently being developed for film with producer James Wan), as well as The Deep and Little Heaven. Nick Cutter is the pseudonym for Craig Davidson, whose much-lauded literary fiction includes Rust and Bone, The Saturday Night Ghost Club, and, most recently, the short story collection Cascade. THE OLD MAN’S HEAD was covered in mantises. At first Luke thought it was a wig or some weird toupee-but he was at the southern tip of Guam, a few miles from the Pacific, and the man was wearing tattered clothes and what looked like strips of old radial tires lashed to his feet. Why bother with a toupee? The driver saw the old man, too. He hissed between his teeth-an uneasy tssshk! He said something under his breath: a curse, maybe a prayer? Luke didn’t speak the local dialect. “I’ll do it,” Luke told the driver. “You wait here.” He elbowed the Jeep’s door open. Sweet Jesus, the heat. It’d hit him like a fist when he stepped onto the runway at the Agana airport. It hit him again now-the tropical air, laden with the nectar of heliotropes, caused beads of sweat to pop along his brow. The old man stood facing the wall of a one-story workshop. The ground was strewn with hubcaps and crankcases snarled in rusted wiring. Wrist-thick vines snaked out of the greenery to twine around the industrial junk; with nobody around to hack it back, the jungle would reclaim this spot in a matter of months. The old man was walking into the wall-his sandals made a gentle whush-whush as they brushed the yellowing adobe. The spotting was pronounced on his bare arms and his throat. The scabs were dime-sized, bigger than what Luke was used to seeing. Some of them had cracked open and were leaking grayish pus. Luke had no clue what had drawn the mantises. Maybe they’d dropped from the creeping ivy snarled across the shop’s roof. Or maybe something on the man’s scalp, or leaching out of it, had attracted them. They were the largest insects Luke had ever seen. Each mantis was the length of his thumb, and muscular-looking. They had swollen, cantilevered abdomens that curved above their sharp, considering faces. A baker’s dozen or so carpeted the man’s skull. Luke got the sense of them turning to stare at him, all at once. Luke retreated to the ditch. His feet sank into the muck. He didn’t like the way it sucked at his boots-greedy, a lipless brown mouth. He found a stick and went back. The insects squirmed quarrelsomely on the man’s head, which was covered with wispy white hairs as downy as those on a baby’s skull. Their exoskeletons made a brittle chitter. What the hell were they doing? Luke watched their choreographed manner. The st... -

Chapter One MERI AND KODY Meri I spent the early years of my life living in California with my parents, both of whom were devout followers of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. When I was a baby, my mom had a friend who left the LDS church because she practiced plural marriage. When my mom learned about this, it piqued her interest, and she began studying the principle as well. Soon after, she suggested to my dad that the family move to Utah. He didn’t know her religious reasons at the time, but he said sure, let’s move-though it took them four and a half more years of research and studying the principle before they actually did. We finally moved to Utah when I was five years old. It was my mother who urged my father to take his first plural wife. He did, and she joined the family when I was only five, but I still have fond memories of her. Unfortunately, it was a short marriage with no children, and she left two years later. When I was ten, my mom and dad once again brought a new wife into the family. I didn’t think there was anything strange about it-in fact, I was excited. I was a shy kid and didn’t make friends easily. When I found out that the woman my father was courting was from a large polygamous family, I was thrilled to have the chance to get to know a whole new group of people and be able to make more friends. Our family grew quickly. Eventually, my father took four wives in addition to my mother. In total, I have twenty-seven siblings! I was in a slightly easier position than many of my siblings who came from my father’s second, third, fourth, or fifth marriages. Since I was the child of my father’s first marriage, his “legal” one, it was simple and natural for my father to be my father in public. Since polygamy isn’t widely accepted, for the other kids, it could be more difficult to acknowledge their father publicly. To my father’s credit, he “owned,” that is, acted as a true father to, every one of my brothers and sisters. Growing up, I always assumed I would live the polygamous lifestyle. It was the tradition in which I was raised. My biological parents and my mother’s sister wives all seemed happy for the most part. Of course there were the normal ups and downs that happ... -
