He wrote songs for Troop, Karyn Whie, Evelyn Champagne King, Freddie Jackson, The Whispers and The OJays among others. He produced songs for the reggae band the Black Uhurus Grammy nominated Mystical Truth album. Jos 2005 album, The Blues According To Zacariah was a breakthough as an artist for him winning the Best New Blues Artist on Sirius XM and The Blues Music Award for Best New Artist Debut. Blues Revue Magazine has called him a latter day Eric Clapton or Robert Cray with shades of Luther Allison and BB King. He has entertained the troops in Iraq and Kuwait and made an apprearance at the Great Pyramid and the Sphinx, being the first roots artist since Louis Armstrong to perform there. Ronnie recalls, Dad told me if I learned to play Messin With the Kid and Reconsider Baby, he would allow me to perform with him on stage to celebrate my birthday. Ronnie did learn the songs, performed with his dad, captured the heart of the audience and was bitten by the blues bug. Thats one birthday Ill never forget! says Ronnie. Ronnie joined Lonnies band full-time in 1986, and has grown to be an accomplished guitarist, singer and songwriter. Until he struck out as a solo in January, 1999, Ronnie opened his Dads live gigs with a blistering set of his own and closed each show playing a few acoustic numbers with Lonnie. Ronnie made his recording debut in 1988 on Lonnie Brooks Live From Chicago-Bayou Lightning Strikes. Ronnie is also featured on Satisfaction Guaranteed and the Alligator Records 20th Anniversary Tour. On that album and tour he played with Elvin Bishop, Lil Ed Williams, Katie Webster and Koko Taylor. Ronnie played his first solo gig in 1992 at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, filling in for Lonnie who was ill at the time. The following night he also soloed in Memphis while one of his idols, Albert King, watched approvingly from backstage. The pressure was great, Ronnie says. I was worried about Dad, and I knew I had big shoes to fill; but when Albert King appeared to show his support, I knew then I was on the right track. He made the jump to permanent solo status after a New Years Eve gig (December 31, 1998) at Buddy Guys Legends in Chicago. Ronnie has jammed on stage with many blues giants such as Albert Collins, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Luther Allison, and Buddy Guy. He has worked alongside talented artists including Junior Wells, Eric Johnson, Jonny Lang, Slash, Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Keb Mo. Later, Jessy Dixon became a gospel star in his own right, and has performed at Radio City Music Hall, The Apollo Theatre, Carnegie Hall, Madison Square Garden, and on the Oprah Winfrey Show. With an active touring schedule, he frequently appears with Bill Gaither. He has over twenty recordings, including seven Grammy nominations, and Jessy sings on several recordings by rock musician Paul Simon. Mainstream artists such as Amy Grant, Natalie Cole, Diana Ross, Randy Crawford, and many others have recorded his compositions. Although Jessy is internationally known for his singing and song writing, this disc proudly spotlights Jessy as a solo piano player. It s refreshing to hear him play his own songs in his own style. His energetic playing and passionate singing are underscored by the old style gospel sound.Geraldine Gay is most notably recognized as a member of The Gay Sisters Trio that recorded for Dolphin and Savoy Records in the late forties and early fifties. The Trio, which included Geraldine and her sisters Evelyn and Mildred, performed at New York s Apollo Theater, Carnegie Hall, the Astrodome, and the Bicentennial Celebration of the United States on the Washington Mall. In addition, the sisters sang at churches around the country, and have performed or recorded with some of the most influential artists of the 20th century, including Mahalia Jackson, Elvis Presley, Sam Cooke, Dr. Thomas Dorsey, Clara Ward, Pops Staples, and many others. In his book The Gospel Sound, Anthony Heilbut referred to Geraldine Gay as the Errol Garner of gospel. Besides her jazz-influenced piano sound, her playing reflects her personality down home friendliness yet sophisticated charm. Nash Shaffer Jr. started studying piano at age six. By the time Nash turned fourteen he played on Chicago s Jubilee Showcase gospel TV show. Nash has recorded with the Queen of Gospel Music, Albertina Walker, for Savoy Records, as well as many other talented vocalists. In addition to his musicianship, Nash has kept traditional gospel alive by disc jockeying a radio program for the past twenty-one years (Sunday mornings on WCEV 1450AM from 5 to 7 a.m.). The groups instrumentation is a little unusual: Strict traditionalists may not approve of the harmonica or, heaven knows, the banjo ukulele in place of the traditional open-back five-string banjo played clawhammer style. But the twin fiddles of Ed Baggott and Jim Cauthen (mainly playing in unison but occasionally separating into lovely harmony lines) carry the tunes with a sound that is as deeply traditional as any in American music, and if you can listen to these performances without dancing around the room you may need your pulse checked. This CD is from early 1980s sessions in Colorado and New York City, including 4 tracks with Mac Rebennack (aka Dr John). Featuring the Forbears: Washboard Chaz Leary, Don DeBacker, Tim Martin, Dexter Payne. Enhanced disc with lyrics on disc. Recorded just 10 years before her untimely passing at 49 years old, some have compared this record unfavorably to her masterpiece, Woman Blue, recorded in the late 60s. That Vanguard release was, even by the critics, held to be pretty darn good. There were others who lived and breathed it, and the occasional musician/singer for whom it was seminal. She was held in the highest regard by all who knew her or worked with her and impressed many from their first taste. Judy was not a pop star. Her voice and songs either moved you or not. This last collection does feature more original material than the one from her 20s, including re-recordings of 2 songs from the ill-fated legendary ATCO release produced by Bill Szymczyk (Sixty Million Buffalo - Nevada Jukebox There are more recordings...hopefully someday available. Its hard to say he is riding on Dad Delbert s coattailds when Delvert only penned one of the tunes, Gone To Mexico . Co-producer on many of the songs, Kevin McKendree, also lends his hand with a variety of instruments including piano, lead guitar and a variety of organs. The whole team is from the Nashville/Austin A-list and other great players such as James Pennebaker on fiddle and pedal steel, Steve Mackey on bass and holding down the rhythmic fort on drums is Kenneth Blevins. Clay has been playing all over Texas in support of the release and you can find him performing from Austin to Houston, from Waring to Bandera so get out and see what great talent and a bit of genetic help can do to produce this Texas up-and-comer. Driftin Away With You allows listeners to do just that. They will drift away on the smooth, laid back beats of this track while Gone to Mexico will get them on the dance floor with the Spanish flavor heard throughout. The array of styles heard on Livin Out Loud is just the thing needed for eclectic music fans. No one likes to hear the same note on repeat and Clay McClinton takes that into account and gives true music fans a buffet of sounds that fans of everyone from Alan Jackson to Terry Garland will love. Track 1: Whole Lotta Work kicks off the record with a whole lotta energy. Its a lively tune that will keep bodies moving and grooving from beginning to end. Its one of those songs that can instantly change a bad mood into one thats all smiles. Clay claims, Its a whole lotta work to have a little fun, but all one would need to have is this tune to get the fun started. Track 6: The One You Loved is heartfelt and all about heartbreak. Showing that he has many sides to who he is, Clay opens up with this one and lets the emotions spill out. The hurt transforming into musical ecstasy with every note delivered by Clay. His and Jonell Mossers voices blend ceaselessly together, representing the heartbreak felt on each side. Track 10: Trouble is Easy to Find showcases the Blues Clay adds to his Country charm. This one takes the beat down a notch but cranks up to cool cat meter for the Jazz factor. Sweet Bama by Red Mountain White Trash Review The third album from this fine and unusually configured Birmingham, AL-based string band is very much of a piece with its predecessors: a collection of rollicking and mostly obscure old-time tunes and songs, all of them delivered with warmth, humor, and a winning blend of gentle virtuosity and casual ease. Fiddle tune adepts will recognize numbers like Ora Lee and Garfield March, while lovers of vintage country music will be familiar with the Carter Family classic Youve Got to Righten That Wrong. But the stuff youve probably never heard before is the best: the jazzy Girls Dont Worry My Mind (featuring the charmingly plain-spoken vocals and chiming autoharp of Bill Martin), the equally charming Keno, the Rent Man, and the otherwise untitled Everis Campbells Tune (named after the fiddler who taught it to them but who didnt know what it was called).
