There was to be one last set of sessions with Stephane Grappelli - which forms the bulk of the first three albums of this collection. The sessions arose from an engagement at a Roman club - the Rupe Tarpea. Reinhardt and Grappelli took it when no other work was on offer. The pair had to face two realities. First, their wartime separation had led to new directions and collaborations. Second, their dwindling audiences wanted to hear their hits - making any evolution difficult. The first cut, Over The Rainbow perhaps defines the Django/Stephane relationship: Grappelli struts his stuff as a lead-in to Djangos more agile pyrotechnics. And even as Django supplies rhythm support he cant resist interjections that show him to be the boss and the master of his instrument. Ironically, on the second track - Night And Day Grappelli is much more able than Django to extract pathos from a haunting tune. The stars are reworking some material. For example, Django had recorded a different version of Night And Day with trumpeter Rex Stewart in 1947. And the pre-war Hot Club had recorded Nagasaki, Minor Swing, Sweet Georgia Brown and Swing 39. But this is refinement, not repetition. And Manoir De Mes Reves here was the last time Reinhardt and Grappelli would record together. No dramatic bust-up. Possibly both men felt they had nowhere else to go. Django returned to Rome in 1950 with changes. Grappelli is replaced by alto player Andr Ekyan and Django is playing an electric guitar. The Italian backing musicians are more than competent, but this is entirely Ekyan and Reinhardts show - pianist Schcroun is not planning anything attention grabbing, and the rhythm section.... supplies rhythm. Theres some fine solo work here from Django and Ekyan who frequently revisit material. No harm in that. Anything by Django merits repeated listening...

They also created some outstanding multimedia works, mainly three CD ROM projects and ten DVDs. Working as an anonymous collective, their identitites were kept secret until in 2017 Hardy Fox revealed himself as their primary composer. Hardy died in October 2018, but the group continue to record and perform. Recently, several new albums have been released, among them the brilliant Intruders and Ghost of Hope. Early in 2020, the group was invited to perform their seminal album God in 3 Persons at the MOMA in New York. Beautiful Eyes was a compilation album that was released on July 16th 2010 via the Robot Selling Device. The album is focused on beautiful but cold pieces of music from throughout the groups history. It includes pieces of music unavailable elsewhere like Available Piece which is an extended instrumental segment from the groups 1978 album Not Available which has not been released elsewhere (even being excluded from the 2019 pREServed reissue of the album). Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. You hear that all the time. When the eyes you are talking about are those of The Residents it means something different. In this case the eyeball masks long used by the group were always a mysterious factor. The Residents sense of beauty was one of distance, even a calculated distance. And so it is with this music which is beautiful but cold, you can listen but not possess. This is a great late night listen. La consulta a un oraculo aun es practicada mundialmente por las personas en busca de la solucion a sus problemas. Con la ayuda de los ancestros y los Orishas, los yoruba lo han hecho desde hace siglos en el suroeste africano, en Nigeria, Benin, Ghana y Togo, a traves del Oraculo de Ifa, el Merindinlogun y el de Obi Abata, del que se dice es el mas antiguo de los tres, y cuyo sistema adivinatorio fue traido al nuevo mundo, a tierra cubana, por los poseedores del ancestral conocimiento de su ritual, en su travesia transatlantica de esclavitud desde el siglo XVI. Alli tuvieron que adaptarse a la nueva tierra, donde tuvieron que tomar los elementos necesarios para sustituir los que no pudieron encontrar y poder seguir ejerciendo la aplicacion de la ancestral sabiduria. En lo referente al oraculo del Obi Abata, que se manipula con los cuatro lobulos del fruto de la nuez de kola (kola acuminata L.), y cuyo arbol no fue encontrado en Cuba, adaptaron el fruto del cocotero: el coco (coco nucifera), llamado Agbon en yoruba, utilizando cuatro pedazos extraidos de la pulpa del fruto...
