They work great with any microcontroller using a single digital pin, and you can even connect multiple ones to the same pin, each one has a unique 64-bit ID burned in at the factory to differentiate them. Usable with 3.0-5.0V systems. The only downside is they use the Dallas 1-Wire protocol, which is somewhat complex, and requires a bunch of code to parse out the communication. There's a great Arduino library for 1-Wire, but some microcontrollers do not have support for 1-Wire so be sure to check! We toss in a 4.7k resistor, which is required as a pullup from the DATA to VCC line when using the sensor. We don't have a detailed tutorial up yet but you can get started by using the Dallas Temperature Control Arduino library which requires also the OneWire Library ...

Z-axis tape is made by 3M, and is used to bond two conductive surfaces together and allow a small (we'd say keep it under 100mA) current to flow through the tape. But here's the cool part: its only conductive across the thickness of the tape itself, not along the length or width . Mindblowing, right? We took a macro shot of the tape above so you can see how it works. Its a regular adhesive tape with little chunks of conductive material every 0.1mm or so. The adhesive does the bonding, the little chunks do the conducting. This tape goes great with our other interesting conductive materials, such as copper tape, ITO glass or plastic, conductive inks, etc. For a quick fun project we put some tape on a Gemma and Neopixels: remove the white cover first, then stick the circuit board onto the brown paper+tape. Cut out the shape around the circuit board, then carefully peel off the brown paper. Repeat for the neopixels. We based this sensor on the latest version of this popular sensor, the LSM303DLHC. The sensor has a digital (I2C) interface. Attaching it to the FLORA is simple: line up the sensor so its adjacent to the SDA/SCL pins and sew conductive thread from the 3V, SDA, SCL and GND pins. They line up perfectly so you will not have any crossed lines. You can only connect one of these sensors to your FLORA, but you can connect other I2C sensors/outputs by using the set of SCL/SDA pins on the opposite side. A Liquid Crystal Light Valve (a.k.a a LCD Controllable Black-out Panel)! They're often used for electric welding helmets because they can protect the welder's eyes from the bright sparks. Or – if you aren't a welder – they can be used to provide a reveal effect for your project, as you can control the opaqueness of the LCD. A Liquid Crystal Light Valve (LCLV) is a device that uses the properties of liquid crystals to control the level of illumination passing through an optical system. It's basically what goes on in your LCD monitor/TV/projector etc, but for each individual pixels. In this product, we have one huge LCD piece, which will filter what you see through it. Normally, its a tinted gray color (because the light around us is not polarized, it is not completely clear). There are two sets of electrodes, on the left and right. The two pins closest to each other (on the edges) are the same electrode, and the LCD is symmetric so you can use either one as positive/negative. By changing the voltage applied, it will block light more and more. Starting at about 1.0VDC the glass will start darkening. At about 4.0V the glass will be opaque. 5V is the max recommended voltage. In between you will get darker shades. Note that it is not capable of blocking 100% of light, but it looks like it blocks at least 95%. If you put a bright light behind it, you will see some light shine through! Almost no current is used and one the LCD, once activated with a voltage, will stay at that darkness level even if the voltage is removed. So, if you want to have it turn on and off, you'll need to drive it with a 0V signal to 'open' it up, or connect a draining resistor between the two pins to leak the voltage off when not powered...
