Qi is a trademark name for a thin and smart inductive charging system . Many large gadget companies have standardized on Qi, which means it's easy to find a charging dish and we thought it might be cool if your Arduino project can recharge itself wirelessly. Thus, we now have a Qi charging receiver module as seen here here. This is just the inductive charging Qi receiver. It will work with any Qi charger base transmitter that will work well with any standard inductive charger base. Simply solder two wires to the V+ and Gnd pins on the Qi module and place the item you want charged onto a charging base. The receiver chip manages the coil so that you'll always get 5V and 500mA. If the coil is too far it will simply not activate at all. In our demo, we used a classic cell phone charger plate . The driver chip is an integrated receiver called the BQ51013B from TI . Since its a Qi charger it can only be used with Qi transmitters! If you want a simpler inductive charger, check out our 5V charger set - it isn't Qi compatible but used together it works quite well! To demo it, we wired the module to a MiniLipo charger and a LiPo battery , as shown in the photos. Now we have a wirelessly-rechargeable battery! Note that you don't get the battery or lipo charger in your order, that's just how we're showing it off. You can even upgrade any device that takes classic USB 5V and up to 500mA. The coil comes on a metallic sticker which is used to shield the device from the coil. Most people have seen inductive charging in a rechargable electric toothbrush: you may have noticed that you recharge it by placing it into the holder, but there's no direct plug. These chargers work by taking a power transformer and splitting it in half, an AC waveform is generated into one, and couples into the second coil. This is a basic charger set, and it does work, providing 5V DC output from the output half when the input half is powered with 9V to 12VDC. You can draw as much as ~500mA if the coils are 2 or 3 mm apart. If you only need 100 or 200mA you can be up 7mm apart. For 10mA draw, the coils can be up to half an inch (12.5mm) apart. Any non-ferrous/non-conductive material (eg air, wood, leather, plastic, paper, glass) can be used between the two coils. The material doesn't affect the distance or efficiency. The coils do need to be fairly co-axial, try to get them to be parallel and have the circles line up for best power-transfer. (This is why the electric toothbrush must fit into the plastic holder, it's lining up the two coils for best efficiency) Because its an air-core transformer, it's fairly inefficient. Only about 40% of the energy in shows up on the other end, but for low power or charging project. If you draw 5V 100mA on the output side (0.5W), you'll need 0.5W * 2.5 / 9V = ~150mA from the input end. The quiescent current is about 70mA at all time, even when the other coil is not anywhere near by. These are basic modules, probably used for some low cost toy. The internal math engine does all the temperature calculations so its easier to integrate - you can read the die and target temperatures directly over I2C. The TMP007 also has better transient management, so you don't get as much over/undershoot when the temperature changes a lot.Simply point the sensor towards what you want to measure and it will detect the temperature by absorbing IR waves emitted. The embedded thermopile sensor generates a very very small voltage depending on how much IR there is, and using some math, that micro voltage can be used to calculate the temperature. It also takes the measurement over an area so it can be handy for determining the average temperature of something. This sensor comes as a ultra-small 0.5mm pitch BGA, too hard to solder by hand. So we stuck it on an easy-to-work-with breakout board. The sensor works with 2.5V to 5V logic so it requires no logic level shifting. There are two address pins and using a funky method of connecting the pins you can have up to 8 TMP007's connected to one i2c bus. We also include a small piece of 0.1 breakaway header so you can easily solder to and use this sensor on a breadboard. Two mounting holes make it easy to attach to an enclosure. We also would like you to check out this breakout board for the TLC5947 PWM driver chip. This chip can control 24 separate channels of 12-bit PWM output. Designed (and ideal) for LED control, this board is not good for driving servos. If you need to drive servos, we have a controller for that over here . Only three SPI pins are required to send data (our Arduino library shows how to to use any digital microcontroller pins). Best of all, the design is completely chainable. As long as there's enough power for all the boards you can chain as many as you'd like, like a little trail of blue PCBs stretching out into the sunset. Each of the 24 output's is constant-current and open drain. You can drive multiple LEDs in series, with a V+ anode supply of up to 30V. If you want to drive something that requires a digital input, you must use a pullup resistor from the drive pin to your logic level to create the full waveform. One resistor is used to set the current for each of the outputs, the constant current means that the LED brightness doesn't vary if the power supply dips. We use a 3.3K resistor for about 15mA but you can solder a thru-hole resistor over it if you'd like to change that value. Check the TLC5947 datasheet for details on resistor-to-current values. We include a few extras to make this board easy to use: a durable 5V low-dropout regulator (with reverse polarity protection in case y'know, you plug it in backwards), a green power-good LED, four mounting holes and a current-set resistor.
